Los Angeles — Hunter Biden offered a surprise guilty plea in his tax evasion case on Thursday, capping a whirlwind day in court in Los Angeles, where jury selection in his trial was set to begin.

The president's son entered an open plea — an offer to plead guilty and allow a judge to sentence him — on Thursday afternoon, admitting guilt to all nine charges. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16. He faces up to 17 years in prison.

"Do you agree you committed every element of the charges in the indictment?" U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi asked Biden.

Democrats don’t want a public spectacle over Hunter Biden, but at the same time, now there’s no one around in the DOJ or elsewhere who can make calls to judges to tell them what their decisions should be.

Pay the back taxes, a small fine, and 90 days probation.

And potentially an apology from the Court.

I'm surprised he would do this given the very high expectation of an "OJ Jury" in Los Angeles.

I’m not, his benefactor Kevin Morris grew tired of funding his legal bills and lifestyle. His expectation of reimbursement died after Biden withdrew from the race last year.

Because he has yet to be sentenced:

Hunter Biden has not yet been sentenced for his tax evasion guilty plea. He pleaded guilty to all nine charges in September 2024, and his sentencing was scheduled for December 16, 2024. However, as of today—March 13, 2026—there is no information in the provided context confirming that the sentencing has taken place or what the outcome was.

The case was before U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi, who has the discretion to determine the sentence, with a maximum possible penalty of 17 years in prison and fines. The plea was an open plea, meaning there was no agreement with prosecutors on sentencing.

Additionally, Biden was awaiting sentencing in a separate gun case, which could influence the tax case outcome due to potential repeat offender considerations. The White House previously stated that President Joe Biden would not pardon or commute his son’s sentence.

So, I thought I would recycle the story to see if anyone else has heard about sentencinh/

Biden issued a full and unconditional pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, on December 1, 2024.

The pardon is sweeping, covering any federal offenses that Hunter Biden "has committed or may have committed or taken part in" between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024.

It specifically covers his June 2024 conviction on federal gun charges in Delaware and his September 2024 guilty plea to federal tax charges in California.

Presiding Judge Scarsi in this case was appointed by Trump. Frankly, I don't understand Hunter's logic of throwing in the towel with no deal. There's something we're not being told or not seeing.
