This morning I went to buy gas in Los Angeles. The price at the pump per gallon was as follows:
Unleaded ... $5.3999
Plus ... $5.4999
Premium ... $5.5999
Yet some people here are complaining about gas in their states being $3.50 or $3.60.
I think that was from some worry warts who want to see Trump fail. Ignore their blather.
You outdo me, that’s for sure.
But, since we get most of our gas from cali, this has been our lot for a long time.
Oh, the irony!
Played that last night actually. LOL!
Yet, the citizens do not show up to vote in their local elections that directly effect their real estate taxes.
For example, just this week in my small town in NH we had 755 out of 2096(registered voters) = 36% of the registered voters came out to vote in town elections and budgets/warrant articles.
That 755 is the largest number to EVER vote in those town elections.
1800 people showed up when Trump won in November 2024. That 85% was the highest percentage EVER.
We will have our annual Town Meeting this weekend. This is where you vote on things like buying a new $1 Million Fire Truck or other major bond proposals. I will be surprised if 500 people show up.
So, what happens in these smaller percentage electoral turn outs is the group who is motivated to get their people out can have a major influence on how my town spends tax revenue. All of our tax revenue comes from very high real estate taxes.
“Where do you get that idea?”
From being old enough to have driven and bought gas in the 1960’s when gas would go under a 20 cents during price wars. In 1965, the average cost of gasoline at the station was approximately 30 to 31 cents per gallon.
Today, the price of gas is over run with taxes in California. And aviation fuel is even more grafted.
Taxes include:
Total Taxes/Fees: Approximately $0.90 per gallon as of March 2026.
State Excise Tax: Roughly 61.2 cents per gallon, which is subject to annual inflation adjustments.
Federal Excise Tax: 18.4 cents per gallon (unchanged since 1993).
Environmental Fees: Costs associated with the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and Cap-and-Trade programs.
And many of those same taxes are in other states as they find it profitable for the government wish list. See anything there that offers any price breaks to the consumer? See anything there that adds to the availability of state politicians to vote themselves a raise? Protect and defend? Yeah right.

That would be about $3.29 in today’s dollars.
I paid $3.29 last Monday.
Yep, just as I thought.
“we get most of our gas from cali...”
Well that sucks......greasy gavin dumping on people beyond the state line......that lowlife really is a parasite.
That’s basically the typical price of gas here in LA, it all depends on the station you go to, Shell sometimes charges more it all depends..my mom goes to the one on Robertson Blvd/Olympic its always a little bit better over there
The gas tax and carbon fees passed onto the consumers were supposed to help fix roads and reduce carbon emissions.
The roads are a total mess and the Air Quality Index for southern California indicates it did nothing.
Sign on a gas pump at a Chevron station in Carson City: "You pay more for gas because of California policies."
Letโs hope. We have enough winds at our back this November. Might as well not add to it.
It’s interesting that they immediately and insanely jack up the price of the gas already literally in tanks at the gas station.
I always wondered about that too.
Gas in Los Angeles is $5.40 a gallon
