Trump makes his shoes the White House uniform
Yahoo News ^ | March 9, 2026 | Daniel Bates

Not satisfied with being commander-in-chief, Donald Trump has become the White House’s very own shoe salesman.

The US president has been buying his favourite shoes for his staff so frequently that they have become the unofficial White House uniform.

One female White House official told the Wall Street Journal: “All the boys have them. It’s hysterical because everybody’s afraid not to wear them.”

Mr Trump has fallen in love with Florsheim, a brand that sells some pairs for as little as $49.90 (£37.27) – a far cry from his expensive Brioni suits.

The president has been buying the shoes for agency heads and members of Congress. He often speaks about how “incredible” they are.

Such is Mr Trump’s devotion to the brand, that he guesses people’s shoe size in front of them, puts in the order, and a week later it turns up, sometimes with the president’s signature on the box.

That includes one unnamed cabinet secretary who had to stop wearing his Louis Vuittons and put on a pair of Florsheims instead.

Among those who have a pair of Trump-approved Florsheims are JD Vance, the vice-president, Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, Pete Hegseth, the defence secretary, and Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary.

Mr Trump’s friends, Fox News personality Sean Hannity and Senator Lindsey Graham, also have a pair each.

I think this shows a lot of character and a modest “regular guy” quality about our president that I like very much. Most wear shoes to show off name brand. Trump wears shoes for comfort.

I meant that most Florsheims cost a lot more. I remember seeing Florsheims advertised when I was a kid; they’re a very old company, begun in 1892.

I like Florsheim too!
For me, it is the top of the line shoe, I cannot afford any more expensive ones.
Anyway, it looks like Trump is buying the shoes from his own pockets, so what is the problem here?

My first “big boy” job was managing various Hanover Shoe stores. One of the last Made in America dress shoes. they bought out Bostonian Shoes then in turn were bought out by Clarks of England. All the factories are closed up now but there is still a big distribution center in Hanover, PA.

Traveling around the country during the 2008 recession with a Gypsy girl, we would buy Allen Edmonds shoes at thrift stores. Fix them up and sell them on eBay. We did ok. Great memories!

This is way too funny but I like it.

I always wore Florsheims as a kid. Always wing tips. They got polished every Sunday morning before church and I got one Quarter for me and one for the collection plate. That one Quarter was the closest I ever came to anything like an allowance.

My Dad wore Florshiems for dress shoes for as long as I could remember and he wore Red Wing engineer’s boots with a buckle on them for work; I think they were sort of a tanker’s pattern.

One of his last requests was that I see to it that he was clean shaven and his shoes were polished for his funeral. The Marine Drill Sergeant in OCS before going to flight school made a big impression on him at 17.

“”Brown shoes don’t make it!””

Hegseth’s sure don’t...We had a neighbor years ago in CA who was a Vietnam vet and he would NOT give up the Florsheim shoes he wore in high school and college. Any outing, he took a ribbing for it but he wore those shoes or none! He was a “triplet” and two joined and served in the USMC but only one was allowed “in country” at the same time as the other..The other one had to leave until the other one was rotated out. Both lucky and made it home. He passed away a couple of years ago...a super neighbor!

The worst is the dressy loafers (that are usually paired with suits/dress slacks) but are worn with no socks and golf shorts. Did they really look in the mirror and think ‘this looks good’?

Ha...I was into Florsheim before DJT came down the golden escalator.

Now bunions and winter snow preclude their use.

Another standard, very deceptive MSM headline, where the truth is only revealed in the article, drip-by-drip, needing the readers close attention.

In sum, Trump likes to wear Florsheim shoes. He has NO connection to the company, but because he likes them, Trump sometimes gifts them to people in the White House. Supposedly, and stated without any fact, other members of the White House now follow this supposed trend and wear Florsheim’s themselves.
