GLENN HEIGHTS, Texas — A dog missing from Texas is now homeward bound after being found in New Jersey, officials say.
New Jersey's Clark Township Police Department posted to social media that a lost dog was found by officers roaming around Clark Commons on March 4.
Officers took the dog, Koko, back to headquarters where they found a chip reader and were able to identify the number for the pet finder service used, police say. Officers then contacted the service and were able to get the name and phone number for the last recorded owner of the pet.
The owners were from Glenn Heights, Texas. They told police the dog had been missing for almost two years prior.
The dog remained in police care, with treats, walks, blankets, and toys until the owners were able to fly out to New Jersey for the reunification.
"As a dog lover amongst many other dog lovers, we were not going to make that puppy wait in a shelter or pound. I want to commend all the officers and staff who went above and beyond to care for this dog while still performing their duties. Koko was living her best life inside the dispatch room the last three days and hopefully it will get even better being reunited with her family again," said Police Director Patrick Grady.
The owners arrived on March 7 and thanked officers for finding and caring for their beloved pet.

Clearly hard-working people with big hearts.
We found a boxer sleeping under our backyard stairs. We fed him all we could find in the fridge (hot dogs) as it seem emaciated. Took him to a local vet who was able to locate the owners. I was hoping the owners didn’t turn out to be abusive or anything but the dog appeared excited about the reunion with the owners and their children. Can’t remember now how they got separated but we were glad he ended up at our place.
Did Koko say how they travelled from Texas to New Jersey?
I wonder too.
I once had a dog that came to me from Texas, but he was flown into Newark Airport. :^D
☺️
The dog.probably got loose from the breeder who got it from the turd who stole it.
Good question.
Good break. Nice to remember a few people are kind and caring.
Clearly a case involving dognapping! No dog would be stupid enough to leave TX for NJ on it’s own.
Dogs love car rides, next year he’s heading for Alaska
