You beat me to it. Anyone interested in a somewhat fictionalized account of the last days of Stalin should consider watching the movie “The Death of Stalin”. Despite the title, it’s a comedy. And a good one at that.

I always wondered why they didn’t pickle him like Lenin.

That was done initially, but after Khrushchev denounced Stalin for some of his crimes, the dictator’s body was removed from Lenin’s mausoleum and buried.
