Team USA men's hockey Olympic Gold medalist Jack Hughes returned to the Prudential Center on Wednesday for the first time since scoring the historic goal that helped Team USA end a 46-year Olympic drought.
While the roaring crowd celebrated Hughes, New Jersey's Governor received a reaction worse than the opposing Buffalo Sabres. The Devils crowd roared with a standing ovation, likened to the one given from members of Congress at State of the Union as Team USA joined the proceedings and Donald Trump made a statement on the women's team who declined his invite.
After Hughes finished speaking with the home crowd, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill appeared and joined Hughes and Olympic teammate Tage Thompson for a photo. But when she was introduced to the ice with her husband, the arena responded with loud boos. Meanwhile, a USA women's hockey gold medalist made a pointed comment on Donald Trump's joke at their expense.
Online reaction saw Jersey residents explain their stance on the negative reception. One Devils fan simply posted that Sherrill getting booed is "what she deserves in Newark."
Another fan added, "You managed to somehow get booed loudly during the most festive thing at the Rock ever," while a third assumed that Sherrill is polling better statewide than Trump in a pro-Trump crowd.

This hockey player is an American hero.
Smart fans
I love that photo
NJ Gov. Mikie Sherrill booed at Devils game honoring US Olympic hockey hero Jack Hughes
It’s disgusting how Democrat politicians exploit the spotlight of others. Parasites. Trump was genuinely proud of the Olympic win.
Hockey fans are not liberal.
