Despite being far away from civilization, a melting Antarctic’s “disastrous” consequences will ripple across the world, researchers warn. Scientists have highlighted just how high the stakes are as human-made climate change continues to rapidly warm Antarctica.
A new study published in the journal Frontiers in Environmental Science, models the best- and worst-case scenarios for global warming on the Antarctic Peninsula, the northernmost part of the mainland.
Researchers warn that the continent’s future “depends on the choices we make today”, arguing that cutting emissions could avoid the most “important and detrimental” impacts of the climate crisis. […]
Under the highest emissions scenario, sea ice coverage could fall by 20 percent. This will have huge impacts on species that rely on it, such as krill, which are an important prey for whales and penguins.
Higher ocean warming could also stress ecosystems and contribute to extreme weather. Multiple extreme weather events in recent years have been linked to the burning of fossil fuels, including the deadly Valencia floods of 2024 and last year’s monsoon storms in Asia. …

When you dig into the article, some professor at Newcastle University ran a computer model based on three scenarios and spit out a result that the world is going to end unless we “Act Now!!!”(tm). Part of the “Act Now” most likely is funding more research at Newcastle University.
We can’t let a warm Antarctica fall into the hands of China. /sarc
And they’ll never stop.
Annual average temperature: -47 F
Bring it on! I have been waiting years for my land investment in Otisberg to pay off!
The Earth is always warming up and cooling down.
I wonder what caused the ‘rapid climate change’ that ended the last Glacial Age...there were no fossil fuels being burned by man back then.
It used to be the whole Antarctica was melting, now it is just Antarctic peninsula.
This is rather small part of Antarctica.
It is the warmest part of the continent, the only part visited by cruise lines and populated by many scientific bases.
Large part of it has not been not covered by glaciers.
So they can show partly uncovered mountains and claim it is because of global warming.
Blah, blah ,blah...cons never give up the con.
Exactly.
How true.
Even if true — ice always melts during intraglacials. During the previous one (Eemian) sea levels were 30 feet higher than today.
Euronews to start then the science and article are pure BS.
Only 4.92 years left.
Boy, is this “scientist” late to the game.
Someone should let him know that all of the snow and ice on the entire planet has already melted, never to return.
The other “scientists” predicted that this global melting would ABSOLUTELY occur in 1995.........2005........2015
