Californians have been trapped in Mexico as cartel violence engulfed a popular tourist city and spilled towards the US border.
Americans in Puerto Vallarta were urged to stay indoors as narco gangs went on a bloody rampage after leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes was killed in a military raid on Sunday.
Carnage spread up the west coast of the country through Sunday, with reports of attacks getting closer to the States in Baja California while gunfire erupted at Guadalajara International Airport.
Cars and businesses were also set on fire further across the country in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cancun on the east side.
Among those trapped in Puerto Vallarta was Katy Holloman, who had been on the way to the airport when she was suddenly told to stay at the hotel.
The make up artist from El Dorado Hills said: “We were told to shelter in place right now, we need to stay in the hotel, it was safer here, but it is not safe to travel to the airport.
“The road is closed due to the cartel. There’s no flights going out of the airport to the States. We’ve rescheduled them for tomorrow afternoon, really hoping we make it home.
“Just going to pray we make it home tomorrow. This is unprecedented here, the hotel staff have been saying this has never happened before.”

But they are thoroughly corrupt in some jurisdictions.
Good pay, among other things, was supposed to prevent corruption, we were taught.
“No foreign country has anything better than the good ol’ USA.”
I agree, except cruise ships cannot stop at US ports without going to at least one foreign country. Stupid Jones Act and after all these years congress has not gotten rid of it. Imagine a cruise from San Diego to Santa Barbara , Monterey, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. Of course San Diego, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle before the leftist destroyed them.
That’s Santo Jorge Floydio.
“I decided many years ago that I would never go to any part of Mexico. Seems like a sensible position.”
ditto ... and i have little sympathy for those who do go, esp. ex-patriots who choose to live there because “it’s cheaper” ...
Indeed it is a beautiful place. Man it’s been a long time for me. 1992 to be exact
Yawn. They need to attack the U.S.
Ramp their bravado.
I haven’t been in Mexico since the late ‘90s and don’t plan on returning anytime soon.
A co-worker and his wife just flew back home on Saturday night after spending a week in Cancun. Got out of there in the nick of time. I told him it was dangerous before they left, but he ignored my warning. I haven’t set foot in Mexico since 1969 and have no plans to ever go there again.
I wrote elsewhere of beheading 25 years ago...
Have them repay the US with Kahlua.
You would think so, but these people are from California.
“Californians have been trapped in Mexico”
Thats nothing.
There are Californians trapped in California.
What border are you talking about? It isn’t the US southern border; violence is nowhere near there.
Californians trapped as cartel
aka Tax collector
Remember the Alamo.
No reason for any sane person to travel to a failed, violent, narco state.
Never been myself but I know people who frequent the touristy parts of Mexico and are warned to stay on property or only participate in tours provided by the property. Back in the 1990s, worked for a financial company who did business in Mexico City and the big wigs had armed security while in Mexico.
