The Gay Mafia showed up in Silicon Valley in the mid to late 90’s.
Suddenly unless you were gay, you didn’t get hired.
There have always been “Mafias” in Silicon Valley. I would hazard a guess that almost every individual in any position of leadership is a member of one or more of them. Perhaps the most commonplace is Stanford Alumni. There was a French “Mafia” back in the day purported headed by Jean-Louis Gassée. There was a German “Mafia” featuring Andy Bechtolsheim. There was also a fairly dominant “Mafia” of Princeton Alumni. There is a very low profile Mormon “Mafia” allegedly involved with several companies, notably Roku. They’re there, they always have been. It’s part and parcel of how the valley works. No surprise at all that gays do the same thing.
Then there are the “not openly”...
