I remember this as my first song that got me into Metallica... on a school bus, going to play another football game. Our quarterback popped into the seat next to me and asked me if I had ever heard of Metallica (it was 1984)..
I told him no.. he handed me his earphones to his Walkman and told me, "check this out".
I listened for a few seconds and took the headphones off, and told him I didn't like it.. it was too heavy. (I was pretty much only into Christian rock, at the time.)
He told me to keep listening.. since I also played guitar at the time, I ended up listening to the whole cassette... I was hooked.
I still blame him for getting me addicted to Metallica, lol.
I detest that entire album.
Master of Puppets hooked me in, too. But it was released in 1986, not ‘84.
These days if I want to listen to something heavy, Testament works quite well.
And, as I mentioned on the other thread, the soundtracks for the newer Doom games.
For me, it was Reign in Blood, then Master. After that, I went back and found Show No Mercy and Kill ‘Em All. To me, the best thrash album ever put out was Speak English or Die by S.O.D. I played the friggin’ tape till it wore out. Yes, I am the old guy with the white beard you see on the highway throwing up horns and going berserk in his car!!!
I am a fan of a bluegrass band (Iron Horse) that did covers on Metallica. The Pickin’ on series was outstanding.

They also did an album on Modest Mouse, another of my favorites.

Music has always tamed this savage beast, lol.
I LOVE Iron Horse!
Lost my PC when I left Japan and came back to the states.. took me forever to find any downloads of them again..
All of their remakes (to bluegrass) are so good.
A song so great it inspired a tagline.
I had a co-worker decades ago that was in a metal band. He played organ. I introduced him to the Isao Tomita - Snowflakes Are Dancing album. He was a changed man after that, lol.
lol.
The new Megadeth is good too.
I’ve heard some of it on YouTube.
Pretty good.
I used to have Colorado and Texas customized license plates on my vehicles when I was young:
MGADTH
Couldn’t get METLCA or MTLICA, though.
Probably because the state bosses thought it stood for, “Meatlicka,” or something else considered unacceptable for a personalized license plate.
I didn’t learn of Metallica until after their namesake album was being promoted on tour and finally began making waves on local radio.
It was right up my alley, but I cannot explain my infatuation - ‘hooked’ hardly describes it - with 1999’s S&M, because I have no background whatsoever with orchestral music.
Best album ever in my book.
