NEW YORK (AP) — Logan Paul has set a new world’s record — for the auction price of a trading card.
The wrestling and social media star’s rare Pickachu Illustrator Pokémon card, a “Holy Grail” for collectors, sold for $16.5 million Monday at Goldin Auctions after 41 days of bidding. Paul had purchased the card in 2021 for $5.275 million, a Guinness record at the time for a Pokémon card. He had added a diamond necklace and custom case and wore the card at WrestleMania 38 in 2022.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Sarah Casson was on hand Monday for the auction’s closure, which was livestreamed on YouTube, and confirmed the price was a record not just for a Pokémon card, but for any trading card sold at auction.

My nephew’s friend recently went to Japan and asked him if he wanted anything so he told him Pokemon cards since they are VERY popular in Japan, my nephew doesnt collect them to sell he just really loves Pokemon as a hobby
With crayons and watercolors I can make my own Bipoar Bob Pikachu card. I’ll take less than what that one sold for.
In my day, I had Ted Williams, Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle cards. I seem to remember a Sanford Koufax also.
There are allegation that he may have laid bets for what the card would sell for to increase his profit.
Oh heck, I have six of them
Never understood what a Pokémon card is but I wish I’d bought one years ago. Still don’t know they they are.
There’s plenty of people with more money than brains.
