An avid New Jersey outdoor buff slipped off a trail and froze to death while hiking New York’s highest peak with her dog — after it took rescuers more than six hours to find her in bitter single-digit temperatures, officials said Wednesday.
Brianna Mohr, 21 — who posted breathtaking Instagram photos of herself on remote adventures — called 911 while clinging to the side of Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks at 3 p.m. Thursday, according to police.
But rescuers couldn’t find Mohr, of Brick, until after 9 p.m., at which point she had died of hypothermia, New York State Police said.
Temperatures in Keene, New York, where the mountain is located, ranged from -8 to 20 degrees that day...

A simple precaution is don’t hike alone.
The dog was probably right nearby and when she was found, too. The poor animal had a foolhardy master.
Couldn't the dog been like a radiator for her to keep warm?? What am I missing?
The article said she “slipped off the trail” and “called 911 while clinging to the side of Mount Marcy.” Steep enough, perhaps near-vertical, so the dog could not follow. The girl may have been too injured to climb or go down.
Idk, just guessing.
No. Always carried a tent. Also always had a bivvy bag. Gortex bag for sleeping bag, I’ve literally used just that with my down bag inside at -20. Pull flap over my head and snuggle up heh.
I’m no Canadian though, nobody knows what that is. I’m a western rancher type, freedom orientated immigration resistant and I really despise people who call themselves Canadians. They aren’t my countrymen. They parade around on Nov 11th saying lest we forget, but they all forgot. I don’t know them.
This is not a movie.
You are not the main character.
You have no plot armor.
If you are going to be hiking alone, or even in a group, carry a Personal Locator Beacon.
And wear wool.
I think the bothy bag is primarily for British day hikers who tire of the high winds or perhaps the rain and use the bothy bag to take a windproof tea break out of the elements, mine weighs 12.7 ounces and you just pull it over you and sit on part of it with your partner or your backpack facing you, it is for sitting inside of and is too small for sleeping (comfortably), but very light and handy for what it is.
Survival gear for casual outings is like which caliber pistol to carry, it has to be something that you will actually have with you, not leave on the dresser back home.
You know all this, but it is for the thread.
I rather take up sky diving, than frozen hikes without a partner just in case.
I meant “OR HIKING” in the pine barrens (how ever it’s spelled?- where the jersey devil is said to reside
