Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has today been arrested on his 66th birthday and is in police custody.
Thames Valley Police said the eighth in line to the British throne has been held on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
A force spokesman said officers are searching an address in Norfolk - believed to be Wood Farm where he is exiled - and an address in Berkshire, likely to be Royal Lodge in Windsor, where he lived for more than 20 years until this month.
'The man remains in police custody at this time', the spokesman said - but the force would not confirm where Andrew, who is celebrating his birthday today, had been taken.
Thames Valley Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said: 'Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.
'It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.
'We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.'
Andrew's arrest was revealed today around an hour after police were seen at Sandringham. Six unmarked police cars arrived at King Charles' Norfolk estate at just after 8am this morning.
Onlookers said the group of eight people were in plain clothes 'but appeared to be police officers'. One man appeared to be carrying a police-issue laptop.

I think of young Morse - Endeavor.
Great series.
Meanwhile...
The people who could do that for Epstein's handlers are likely still in place, in positions of use, positions of power.
This isn't just about Andrew.
Inspector Morse strikes again!
misconduct in office sounds pretty innocent. I mean Democrats do this on a daily basis.
“held on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
A talking head said that this “misconduct” charge probably is A thing, but probably not THE thing. If just misconduct, he probably wouldn’t have been hauled off to jail. This is their way to incarcerate and hold him for something much bigger.
I think there may be an Epstein-Russian connection. He did visit with Russian President Putin at least once, and he obtained Russian and other Eastern European women for his operations from the Russian Mafia, which is under the control of the KGB/FSB.
Ambivalent
Yep
Freepers love this
I donât know about Andrew and pedophilia
Havenât seen that but not saying someone doesnât have it
Virginia was 17 and he was 38-40
That wasnât a crime in my youth nor terribly uncommon even if frowned on
Could be for something else
Statecraft malfeasance ?
There are pictures of Epstein’s cohort in blackmail sitting on the ‘thronehttps://people.com/royals/why-kevin-spacey-and-ghislaine-maxwell-sat-in-queen-elizabeth-and-prince-philips-thrones/
Andy invited the perverts right inside the inner sanctum ... a place he knew he would never sit.
He probably had no loyalties of any kind. He was a free-lance black-mailer, and if a power wanted state secrets, he could get them from his blackmailees, if the power could pay. He was what’s known in that trade as a “source,” same as Pollard, many cartel heads and members, and other unsavory characters as well. They are the ones to whom spy agencies go for information.
Yea, I thought it was the sex thing.
