Vatican declines to join Trump’s Gaza ‘Board of Peace,’ calls for UN leadership

The Vatican will not join President Donald Trump’s newly formed Board of Peace, its top diplomatic official said Tuesday, signaling reluctance from the Holy See to take part in the post-war initiative.

Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said the Holy See "will not participate in the Board of Peace because of its particular nature, which is evidently not that of other States," the Vatican’s official news outlet reported.

The Board of Peace, which was chartered in January and includes nearly 20 countries, is tasked with managing recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip after the Israel-Hamas war.

While responding to questions about Italy declining to join the board, Parolin said "there are points that leave us somewhat perplexed," adding that "there are some critical points that would need to find explanations."

"The important thing is that an attempt is being made to provide a response," he said. "However, for us there are certain critical issues that should be resolved."

No, this is THE logic. Vatican didn’t want to get involved (can’t blame them, if somebody tried to drag me into that mess I’d wonder why they hate me so much) but didn’t want to say “we want nothing to do with this”, so they said “we’ll work through the UN”, knowing full well they aren’t in the UN. Now their hands are washed and they’re not involved.

You are trying too hard to avoid the truth.

It is ignorance to try and deny supporting the UN to manage a process is somehow not supporting the UN’s political and ideological desires just because you are not an official voting member.

Leadership demonstrates their purpose by that which they align with. The Vatican aligned with the UN in this. The Vatican knows full well anyone they state as being preferred as the implied support, that is hgow politics works.

The clear answer if not engaging would have been to not accept and then NOT state who you think should do it. The Vatican instead decided to become active in the conversation when they stated the UN as a preference.

What truth? You are denying the Vatican said the UN should handle it, that places the Vatican directly on the side of the UN instead of just politely declining and showing no support for any organization.

It is clear to me your posting shows you are aware of this but chose to deny it, that is not truth, that is self-deception.

A billion is a steep price for a seat.

And I actually would have been surprised if the Vatican had said yes..

You show the world you got that kind of walking around money to just sit at a table....

How does saying the UN is better for this staying out of politics?

All they had to do was simply defer out, not then go on to choose who you prefer do it.

Sadly, like too many other higher-ups in the Catholic Church, Cardinal Parolin fails to think like a Christian, let alone a Catholic. Parolin’s reasoning is right out of Chuck Schumer’s playbook, isn’t it?

Politics is a game best played with a degree of military power at your back. How many divisions does the Pope have?

No playa the game, no maka the rules.

Gaza really isn’t this important. The entire area is smaller than the city of Hamburg.
