The iconic excellent actor in so many roles-—
“Mr. Arthur Radley”-— Boo Radley... and The Great Santini, and Robert E. Lee. And even frighteningly real Joseph Stalin.
A true master of the craft of Acting. Robert Duvall. Rest in Piece and dance the Tango forever, Robert.

My favorite character was Hub McCann in Second Hand Lions... Very impressive that it came out the same year as Open Range where he played Boss Spearman.

R.I.P. My dad’s favorite actor. He was not a typical Hollywood liberal. I vaguely remember him calling in to some talk radio show (?) - not a liberal.

His wife is a tango dancer and instructor, and Duvall of course learned to tango with her. One of the Hollywood crimes of the last century was casting Al Pacino in
Scent of a Woman (as a US military officer, with a tango scene) instead of Robert Duvall.
Duvall was magnificent in every role he played, from Boo Radley onward. I used to go over to his tiny restaurant in Virginia just to look at his back while he lunched with his wife, his back to the room for privacy. Wonderful writer and director, as well. RIP to a conservative in show biz.

Duvall’s political views were variously described as libertarian or conservative.
He was personally invited to Republican President George W. Bush’s inauguration in 2001. In September 2007, he announced his support for Rudy Giuliani’s campaign in the 2008 Republican Party presidential primaries.
Duvall also worked the floor at the GOP’s 2008 national convention.

Truly one of the greatest actors ever.
Thank you for your work.

The Great Santini -- I wore out my VHS copy. Also fantastic in Something to Talk About, playing the husband of Gena Rowlands, the father of Julia Roberts and Kyra Sedgwick, and the father-in-law of Dennis Quaid. Loved The Apostle and Get Low, A Family Thing, Sling Blade, Tender Mercies, to name a few. And of course, The Godfather. Just sorry the Tom Hagen character went out on a low note (manipulated by Michael Corleone for cheating on Mrs. Hagen). Saw quite a few of his others. Greatest actor of the 20th century.
