If a Sweetwater County judge won’t dismiss the animal cruelty case against Cody Roberts, his lawyer wants to bar any testimony about how Roberts allegedly ran a wild wolf down with a snowmobile and taped its mouth shut.
Those are “prior acts” to what the state of Wyoming has outlined in its case against the Daniel man — namely, Roberts taking the wolf to the Green River Bar in Daniel and allegedly subjecting it to torment there, attorney Robert Piper writes in his motion filed Monday in Sublette County District Court.
“Such alleged conduct occurred prior to the wolf’s alleged presence at the Green River Tavern on Feb. 29, 2024,” the motion reads. “The state of Wyoming has taken great pains to clarify that it does not take issue with the alleged killing, capture or hunting of the gray wolf in controversy, but with its alleged torture and killing.”

I have very little sympathy for any wolf, and feel nothing but anger towards the big-city liberals and East Coasters who forced wolves on the west. We wiped them out for a reason and the wolves that have been “reintroduced” don’t belong here. (see Colorado illegally importing Canadian wolves). I am sure people in Daniel Wyoming feel just as strongly.
Also, putting this in perspective, he captured the wolf, taped it up, and displayed it to his friends.? Sounds like we do just as bad with every prisoner, and this only rises to the level of “torture” in a world that has lost all context for real life.
Understanding all the emotions behind this, what the man actually did, and understanding how wolves kill, give the man a fine and let’s move on.

Agreed. If this is animal cruelty, than we either protect animals more than we protect humans, or nearly every arrest/incarceration violates the eight amendment.
The prosecutor needs to lay it on and throw the book at this creep on top of animal cruelty. Having a firearm in a bar is illegal in Wyoming. Being drunk and having a firearm on you is illegal in Wyoming. Discharging a firearm when drunk is illegal in Wyoming. Discharging a firearm inside city limits is illegal in Wyoming. Take away his guns and hunting license for life too after he gets out of prison. He is one sick person.

Look, the guy is incredibly dumb. What did he do to torture the wolf? Deprived it of its freedom? Freedom to bite and kill? I am not defending the dumba$$, but it is a minor deal. He should not be cancelled for life, IMHO.

All the facts show is that he captured a wolf, held it, and then killed it. If that is torture or cruel, then every prisoner on death row is a violation of the eighth amendment.
Are you fine with human prisoners being held on death row before execution? Or is that cruel and unusual?

Where I live, everyone hunts.
If you even dare to screw up a shot, be it bullet or bow, and do NOT go far and above to track the wounded animal and its suffering, you’re gonna be looked down upon severely by other hunters and potentially mocked or ostracized.
Killing is one thing.
Making a perverted “game” of it is another.
It’s that simple.
Ask yourself, would YOU do this to your hunted animal?

This story is totally blown out of all proportion. Any time we have a perp walk, by the same standard are we not torturing the prisoner? This trial will be a national interest trial, and it is really nothing!
We raised food stock.
Their lives were pampered and their deaths were quick, peaceful and merciful.
Not a single beef cow felt a second of fear as it happily slurped up that last mouthful of sweet feed.
The hogs all had the same, a special trough of their favorite treats, which they never got to finish, lest they would look up and feel a twinge of panic from the gun
