Hero dog guides police to missing 3-year-old boy: ‘Lassie found him’

What’s that, boy? Timmy is stuck in a car?

A four-legged hero lent Kentucky police a paw during a search for a missing child in his neighborhood, with the pooch grabbing their attention and guiding them to the boy, new bodycam footage shows.

Louisville Metropolitan Police officer Josh Thompson and his fellow cops were searching for a missing 3-year-old boy on Jan. 7 when an unnamed collie mix appeared and began barking at them, the police video shows.

Thompson said he was a “little leery” of the dog, who he did not recognize despite his usual patrols, but the dog was persistent and barked directly at the officers as though trying to get their attention.

It was then that Thompson jokingly relented and acknowledged the dog.

“Hey, let’s go find this kid,” Thompson told the dog, prompting the collie to run into a backyard.

“At this point, I’m thinking, ‘This kid is in the backyard,'” Thompson said.

As Thompson looked around in the backyard, the dog came to him to lead the officers to the garage area, where a car was parked.

When officers looked in the car, they found the frightened child locked inside the car in the front passenger seat.

Thompson said he immediately went into “dad mode” as he tried to instruct the boy on how to unlock the door so the officers could get him out.

“He hit the door latch, and I just gave him the yank motion. He yanked, and I pulled that door open quickly,” Thompson said. “And he jumped from the car, bear hugged my neck, and wouldn’t let go.”

The boy was scared but unharmed and was quickly reunited with his family.

Cold weather out there. No wonder the kid was happy someone found him.

Great story.

I recall an old New Yorker cartoon:

Timmy was grasping to a branch while dangling from a cliff. “Lassie get help!” he said.

In the next frame Lassie was laying on a couch while a psychiatrist analyzed him...

That’s a heartwarming story. A great way to start the day.
The dog had it figured out: the boy is trapped. “I can’t get him out of there by myself, but I know who can. so I’ll go get somebody over here.” thought the dog.
Then, he saw a building, full of men and women in dark uniforms, some wearing badges. “Hey Mister! I’m talking to you. Pay attention and follow me! I know what I’m doing.”

Danny Shanahan. Good cartoonist, later fired from The New Yorker after he was arrested for possession of child pornography.

I know, they fired him for it. You’d think that would be a resume enhancer for The New Yorker.

It’s good they fired him for it.

I have one client that writes for the NY’er (a computer client). He’s a total lefty but a good writer with a few movies and some books to his name. We get along well professionally. His Wife is a fantastic horse rider in national championships.

It’s just a bit creepy going to his town as it has the highest % of Ivy League graduates in the state and his neighbor across the street is Tom Brokaw.

My client is an honest and decent man, I know that personally.

There’s a video on YouTube that shows an Alaska State Trooper following a German Shepard to a house fire. The Trooper’s GPS wasn’t getting him there so he instinctively followed the dog who led him right to the fire.
