New images in the search for Nancy Guthrie:

Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors - including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.

Working with our partners - as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance.

So many of my crime movies and tv series have a bumbling partner or someone hired to do something who messes it up and the smart guy has to cover it up.

My wife and I were among the beachgoers in Florida in 1998 held at gunpoint by a killer (oddly from Michigan where we lived).
He ended up grabbing another older man as hostage as the poor wife next to him slumped down in fear, and the killer took his car and escaped. Cops were afraid to intervene. Perp got taken later in a home invasion. Get this: At a concert later the next door neighbor to the home invasion couple said “The police misunderstood him. He talked nicely to the two of them and didn’t at all seem like a violent man.” Definite woke woman.

The killer had earlier used the same gun he held on my wife and myself and the people near us when he shot a woman through her bathroom window at home. He had sent his dimwit accomplice inside to rob the older lady who had earlier kindly hired them to do some work. They knew she owned a small business so preposterously assumed she took all the money home and kept it there in cash so must have a fortune to steal.

She had $20 in cash at home with her so they killed her.

The accomplice said “I seen him through the window, aiming at her. He was showing his teeth like he does when he’s laughing as he’s about to shoot somebody. He sees the humor in it. Then he shot her in the head.”

This “colorized” image makes major guesses about the color of:
- skin,
- lips,
- hair,
- eyes, and
- clothes.

It ends up being less than worthless - it can guide one to making suspects of innocents who match arbitrary guesses, and to ignoring the actual perps who don’t match the guesses.

I was around the corner from Annie Guthrie’s house on the main road earlier today and just so happened to see a group of investigators walk into a business. I went inside and they were asking an employee for a copy of surveillance video from an outdoor camera between Jan 31st at 9:30 pm and Feb 1st at 11:30 am.

The (biased) colorizing job won’t effect that outcome.

Something tells me they already know who (all) did this.

I don’t find any other picture like that one with no details, as if the dude didn’t even have eyes or a mouth. I think it is just a fuzzy picture of a picture copied, sent, copied, sent, and on and on, a little worse for wear all along the way.

The Puma Co Sheriff’s office has put out a statement asking people not to call their non-emergency line with opinions on the kidnapping. They ask that people instead call the tip line. I bet they are getting a lot of calls from amateur sleuths.

This is why my bedroom door is reinforced several different ways, with a key-lock doorknob instead of a standard interior one. It will take quite some doing for someone to breach it. By the time they begin to, I’m shooting .357 rounds through it.
