About three weeks ago I had what seemed to me to be a serious stroke. I considered it quite likely I was not long for this world.
But medical technology has come ahead in leaps and bounds and I'm considered close to recovered at this point.
If you're having concerns about your health, see your Doctor. I didn't. If I had, I might have not needed to go through what I did.
It’s a wake up call Amigo!

Glad to hear you have survived such a rude surprise, naturalman1975. May you live to see William crowned and many more years besides.
I have texts from her during that time but she doesn’t remember sending them. She called, and also doesn’t remember.
Glad you are on the mend! The hubs wasn’t as fortunate 5 yrs ago but he’s still with us thankfully. His first stroke was evident only with a drooping mouth and slightly slurred speech. Found out his one artery was severely clogged. It was the surgery to fix the artery with a stent that caused a more severe stroke to happen. We don’t blame the surgeon at all, its a risk of these types of surgeries. He was non verbal for a few months, couldn’t walk unaided, couldn’t write, most certainly couldn’t drive. With a lot of physical therapy, he was functioning quite well in 6 months. He still cannot write very well and has some communication issues but he can function without me being around and can drive on his own.
God bless you, nm. Use the time.
That means God’s not done with you yet here in this world. Are you prepared to meet Jesus face to face once your appointed time comes?
Stay strict on the meds. Those aren’t screwin’ around. Amazing stuff.
I see your father was a Vietnam Vet. I assume he served from Australia. My only brother was a Vietnam Vet...U.S. Army. He was stationed at Cu Chi, Vietnam 1966-1967. Right next door to his camp at Cu Chi (Company C, 4th Battalion (Mechanized), 23rd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division), were stationed Australian soldiers. He had nothing but good things to say about them. In one of his letters home, he wrote about having come back soaked to the skin, and dog tired from a long operation, how kind his Aussie neighbors were to him and some of his friends. They took them to their mess, and fixed them all up with humongous roast beef sandwiches, and of course beer. He raved that they were the best sandwiches he'd ever had.
At 78, and after having worked with several people who had severe health issues and recovered, I discovered there were two types of survivors. One type takes their health crisis seriously, changes old habits, and works hard to maintain a healthy state. The other type thinks they have to constantly push the envelope, doing stupid things that put their health at risk once again.
Hang in there man and follow your doctor’s advice, keep up with the meds.
In 1980 my Mom had a stroke that caused her to lose much mobility on her left side. She was 57. She lived another 6 years, the last one in a nursing home because Dad couldn’t care for her by himself. Between 1980 and 1986 she had a couple more that incapacitated her more and more.
The same year of my Mom’s passing, my Father in law had a stroke. He was not as disabled as Mom was, but he lost his speech. He passed in 2000 from diabetic complications.
I’m glad you’re on the mend. I hope you have good family support, it means a lot. Many more years of good health to you…..🙏🙂
I had two blood clots in blood vessels going to the retina in my right eye (eye stroke). My vision is a little cloudy in that eye. Eye drops four times a day, and an injection of meds into my eye every eight weeks. Stopped it from getting any worse, but the damage was done. It is what it is.
Glad to hear it.
Prayers up for a speedy recovery.

Thank you for sharing your situation. Glad to hear you are pulling through. As you can see from many of the responses, a lot of people have been in similar shoes. With God’s help and medical intervention, may you be completely healed as if you had not even had a stroke. May 2026 be a time of renewed health and a new appreciation for life.
Hope your recovery is complete and you have no recurrences. I’ve been there...I died on the basketball court and was brought back by the Grace of God and prompt medical attention. A couple of years later I had a stroke, but the paralysis of my left arm and the inability to speak coherently only lasted a couple of hours, for the same reasons. I give thanks every day for His mercy.
Praise God! You have purpose cause you are still with us! God is good!
I had one in 2022. A large clot got stuck at where the left M1 bifurcates and it was rattling back and forth. They told my family that there was about an 87% I wouldnt make it through the thrombectomy and if I did I would only be a vegetable.
As far as vegetables go Id say Im doing pretty good. I couldnt speak at all at first. Language and executive never fully returned but most other things got better pretty quickly.
You may notice things you havent yet noticed but still have recovery up to two years. At least thats what they say. I would say I still saw recovery nearly three. If something doesnt come back quite the right way theres still time.
I am excited that you haven’t given up. I am a big believer in God for those things that are impossible and which usually take time.
Instantaneously is just fine, but longer term recovery makes us grateful... and more confident. in my humble opinion.
