Pirro Threatens Jail Time for Lawful Gun Owners Who Travel to D.C. With Firearms
New York Times ^ | February 3, 2026 | Robert Jimison

Posted on 02/03/2026 6:42:57 AM PST by Miami Rebel

Jeannine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, on Monday threatened jail time for anyone who enters the capital with a gun.

In remarks on Fox News that could deepen a growing rift between gun owners and the Trump administration, Ms. Pirro declared that if anyone brings “a gun into the District, you mark my words, you’re going to jail. I don’t care if you have a license in another district and I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else.”

Her remarks prompted swift pushback from the Republican Party’s pro-Second Amendment wing, which was thrown into a cycle of confusion and frustration over comments from President Trump and some in his administration after Alex Pretti, a licensed gun owner, was shot by federal immigration agents last month during a protest in Minneapolis.

The shooting has fueled debate among conservatives over the administration’s vacillating posture toward lawful gun ownership. After the shooting, Mr. Trump and some senior administration officials sought to blame Mr. Pretti for carrying a concealed firearm during the protest.

“I don’t like that he had a gun, I don’t like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that’s a lot of bad stuff,” Mr. Trump said last week in Iowa.

Ms. Pirro’s remarks caught the attention of several Republican lawmakers, including Representative Greg Steube of Florida, a U.S. Army veteran, who said on social media that he travels into Washington from his home district every week with a firearm. “I have a license in Florida and DC to carry. And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others,” Mr. Steube wrote. “Come and Take it!”

Pretti boi got what he wanted when he decided to take a handgun to a “peaceful” Demonrat Pep Rally.

Taking a handgun wasn't a crime. Committing assault and Felony Interference was. Carrying a handgun while committing those crimes was a secondary issue.

“””What an uninformed statement. Of course you can buy a machine gun. I have not, but have friends who have. It’s burdensome, but it’s perfectly legal. You know there are websites that specialize is selling transferrable automatic weapons?”””

So you agree with me. You must follows gun laws that control all of this.

Who needs to carry in DC, with crime so low, residents so trustworthy. I mean, even the government officials are trustworthy. And cops there haven’t beat anyone unarmed to death since what, J6, 2020?

Right to life comes from Hod and all that.

We don’t know yet about this pretti incident, but if the gun was never pulled, bullet holes are generally not required....unless, unrelated, he tried to grab theirs.

Pirro gets power and she’s become orgasmic again like everyone else.

Deepen a growing rift between gun owners and the Trump administration?

You can count on the New York Times to change the story into, "Let's Hate Trump". Tagline still applies.

Constitutional Carry throughout the U.S. with no licensing requirements is what we need.

When I had an FFL (federal firearms license) there was a large book I received each year with all of the gun laws for each of the 50 states, about 6 inches thick with fine print.

Many gun laws are vague or incomprehensible, and I learned that you definitely have to look up all of the state supreme court rulings on any gun law for every state to know it’s application, and additionally all municipalities with their own restrictions.

What is it about these brain dead people that makes them buy into the gun is bad mindset? How many Capitol buildings in our Republic allow the carrying of guns by the public with no issues? What is it about the second amendment of our Constitution that is so difficult to comprehend? The bill of rights is the “law of the land”. It supersedes all other unconstitutional laws. Porro cannot be this stupid can she? Another disappointing appointee. Go back to Fox and sit on the set where you can be afraid of guns Jeanine.

“Please explain the DC laws on possession of a firearm.”

Do your own research. Did you hear her statement? It was absolute.

“You bring a gun into the District [of Columbia], you mark my words: You’re going to jail. I don’t care if you have a license in another district, and I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else,” Pirro said on Monday,”

You’re okay with this?

That law is what they say it is depending on what they want it to say. A tax attorney once told me the same thing about the IRS.

“So you agree with me.”

Nice deflection, but I was simply informing you that you can buy a machine gun which you apparently were unaware of. Yes, you must follow the law. I never said otherwise. The laws are unconstitutional. And a senior member of the DOJ making a statement like the one she did indicates she is not a supporter of the constitution that she swore an oath to defend.

The Constitution doesn’t tell citizens what they can or can not do.

It states what the government can do, and how they are to do it.

Common error.

I know you can buy a machine gun if you want to go through a mountain of paperwork. The Second Amendment doesn’t change that.

I am aware of the background of "Just following orders", it's irrelevant other than the stupidity of accusing people of being Nazis when you disagree with their actions.

The blame rests with Congress who hasn't acted, and a bit on President Trump who has advocated for concealed carry reciprocity but given the acceptance of "prosecutorial discretion" in our system could instruct the Justice Department not to prosecute.

If he does I doubt Pirro will resign in protest, so you'll be arrested by the DC police. This is largely a state/local issue until Congress acts.

ANy gun owner or NRA supporter crying over this is a troll. A DNC operative and/or a NYTimes doofus spewing lies hoping that the RINO conservatives will believe that MAGA/GOP(real) are against gun rights.

No. The message is that if you bring a gun to a riot you are asking for if not provoking trouble. Gun rights enthusiasts do not carry to provoke — they are too responsible for that. They carry to simply say: “go bother someone else”. Plus, no gun rights enthusiast will attend a riot — only commie trash do that.

The anti-ICE “demonstrations” are designed to become riots. If you do not know that you should not be allowed anywhere near fire, much less a gun. This is all ANTIFA/BLM thugs dressed up for winter. A re-run of 2020, with the same purpose.

So? That is the law. Why do you have a problem with her enforcing the laws in D.C.? It does sound like this is a preemptive warning. Like maybe ARMED anti-ICE nutjobs are planning to show up soon. She will get them on gun charges if nothing else.

So I can go get a machine gun?

Pre 86, legal in most states with a Federal permit.

“The Second Amendment doesn’t change that.”

It would if it were enforced on the government as written.
