Court Ruling Allows California Abuse Claims Against Steven Tyler to Proceed

Steven Tyler's attorneys can claim partial victory in a new court ruling as arguments continue in a child sex-abuse lawsuit brought by the former Julia Holcomb.

Los Angeles County Judge Patricia A. Young has dismissed claims of alleged abuse in Oregon, Washington and Massachusetts, citing laws governing the age of consent and the statute of limitations. Crucially, however, the California-based charges against Aerosmith's frontman can go forward.

In terminating the other claims, Judge Young would apparently stop them from being refiled again. She promised a written decision soon. "I have clearly signaled how I intend" to rule, Young said from the bench. "I'm not moving the trial."

What is Aerosmith Frontman Steven Tyler Charged With?

Holcomb, who now goes by Julia Misley after marrying, says the then-25-year-old Tyler began abusing her while on tour in the early '70s when she was a high school sophomore. They first met backstage in Portland, Misley said in the lawsuit. She said they had sex the next night in Seattle. In both cases, the age of consent at the time was 18.

"I was treated like a sex toy," Misley said during depositions. "I was treated like a pet, like a thing, and it was humiliating."

A subsequent encounter in California was recounted in Tyler's autobiography, 2011's Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, though he did not name Misley. Tyler eventually became her legal guardian during a three-year relationship in which Misley says she was groomed.

"I went and slept at her parents' house for a couple of nights," Tyler wrote in his memoir, "and her parents fell in love with me, signed papers over for me to have custody, so I wouldn't get arrested if I took her out of state." Misley, meanwhile, said she'd become "lost in a rock and roll culture" as an impressionable teen.

What's the Latest in Steven Tyler's Sex Abuse Case?

Tyler's lawyers denied the abuse claims and asked that her December 2022 lawsuit be dismissed on the grounds that she moved in with him in Boston, where the age of consent was 16. The judge, however, ruled that local laws governed his actions when they traveled together outside of Massachusetts.

Misley brought this action after California passed 2019's Child Victim's Act, which gave survivors a three-year window to make older claims. Young said her assertion that Tyler sexually abused her at a Beverly Hills hotel while on tour was valid enough to proceed.

"Even if it's legal in Massachusetts, California has an interest in saying, 'OK, that's fine but it's illegal here. Don't come within our borders and do it here," Judge Young argued in court. "California absolutely has an interest in people coming into our state, committing a crime here, such as childhood sexual abuse, and then leaving again."

A second woman later filed suit against Tyler again alleging sexual assault as a teen, but those claims have since been dismissed.

Nowhere in the article does it mention her age at the times of the abuse.

She was a bad girl then and she’s a bad girl now. Some girls in my Jr. HS class knew a thing or two. One of them had an older sister who was “dating” a member of Grand Funk at the time of their E Pluribus Funk album. Those girls were way ahead of me and my band of buddies, especially the ones whose older sisters had their own cars and apartments.

Some of you old prudes act like you’ve never been to Portland in the 70’s - and it shows

Sounds like her parents did not mind. What legal weight do those “signed papers” have today ?

His defense was the age of consent was 16, so she was at least 16 and maybe older.

So they had a legal relationship where they lived but he was in California with her for a day so they are letting her sue him.

Her parents sanctioned their relationship, he stayed in their home. Now the girl claims she was humiliated. That part obviously is a lie. Btw she’s at least 70 years old now.

The legal papers allowed her to be staying with him as her guardian, not to have sex with her. And he’s admitting they knew it was illegal in some states.

Still they had a relationship legal in her home state and they had a relationship which her parents supported.

The lawsuit 50 years later is absurd.

They passed these laws so that every Catholic priest could be sued with claims they abused someone 50 years ago, and to get Trump.

When I look up priests I had as teachers years ago they’ve all been accused. In many cases I’m sure it’s bs.

Isn’t this the girl that Tyler got pregnant and tried to kill? Sent a hit man to kill her and burn her in her house but she miraculously survived? But then lost the baby…

“If he was some old dude with a social security check, there would be no lawsuit.”

But if he was a moral dude and not a child abuser, he wouldn’t have allowed himself to be in that position. Sixteen and seventeen year old girls get carried away with their emotions when dealing with campy things a lot. They think they are expected to. So it’s up to the adult involved to control the situation. He most obviously didn’t and being the piece of dung he is took advantage of her even more than most of his kind.

Look at the Minneapolis situation. There are adults playing rioters there while the federal law enforcement is trying to rid them of foul criminal. Some of those criminals they defend are being arrested for child abuse to include rape and trafficking.

Trash of that type of criminals ICE is after shouldn’t be defended any way. Just taken away. But the “rioters” do it like the sick sheep they are while defending the wolves.

"You can't catch me 'cause the rabbit done died."

I never understood that line. Euphemistically, it meant the pregnancy test was positive.

In fact, all rabbits used for the test died because they had to be dissected. So...what is the lyric trying to convey? Pregnant or not pregnant?

Thank you for being on the right side of this topic.

As for the most others…well…so much for conservatives being people who champion morality.

The comments on this thread are straight from gutter slime…. “everyone knows this was part of the deal…things were different back then… this broad now wants to be paid for being a young crew slut... No sympathy!… She was a bad girl then and she’s a bad girl now. “

Tyler was the adult. She wasn’t. His actions - and those of her parents - are disgusting. End of story. I suppose there is a question of timing and the 50 year gap, but that doesn’t change that filth is filth or the law.

This is Roman Polanski-like behavior, but, I guess cause Steven is a rock star and some guys suffer from awe of rank or forgot what Our Lord commands of us, he gets a pass.

I guess some folks have adopted the “it wasn’t rape-rape” position. Welcome to DU.

Thank you again.
