HILLIARD, Fla. — The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday arrested a former middle-high school bookkeeper for allegedly embezzling more than $140,000 in school funds.
Jennifer Folliett, formerly the bookkeeper at Hilliard Middle-Senior High School, faces serious charges including grand theft, organized crime, and official misconduct.
According to her arrest warrant, between 2022 and 2024, Folliett made 148 transactions with checks and cash that went into her personal account. Those transactions ranged from $3 to $6,000.
Investigators say “numerous ticketing records for school sporting events, such as basketball games, were not properly completed or reviewed.”
The arrest warrant also states Folliett is accused of using the school’s Amazon account for personal items like, a chicken coop, weight loss supplements, perfume, and men’s and women’s clothing among other items.

This story won't be surprising to anybody at all familiar with Hilliard Florida

Less poop, more coop.
I’m sorry, but we are going to have to start hanging thieves.
There are too many of them.
Why is this so hard?
You should be having a yearly audit.
It keeps people honest.
Most of them are not big time thieves that went into the job looking to steal, some did but most are just regular people who borrowed a little to tide them over and discovered how easy it was. And they get hooked.
So just have a yearly audit and they won't do it.
The stuff didn’t work.
“So just have a yearly audit and they won’t do it.”

Or at least make it known amongst the staff that there WILL be periodic audits. That alone might discourage some employees from thinking about stealing.
They sent her bon bons and she ate them anyway.
Not just guilty but very guilty.
Plus, she still be plump.
why was she arrested now and not in 2024 when she was fired?

Not only to discourage thievery but because there are always honest mistakes.

“No, you actually have to have them.”

Note that I said “there WILL be periodic audits”. Simply knowing that audits will conducted is often enough to discourage thievery, and even cut down on mistakes. Annual audits are preferable, of course, but in the real world that’s not always possible for various reasons.
People do not take never materializing consequences seriously.
Low level positions like this is just training grounds for those with ambitions of becoming a congressman or senator.
Here they learn proper techniques for embezzlement, bribery, kickbacks and insider trading.
Some learn the rules and techniques and some don’t.
Well that’s also a management layer problem then. Those same people will steal supplies, falsify things and game the system every chance they get without competent and observant management.
I once worked for a company that made it perfectly clear that any form of theft or dishonesty would result in dismissal. They were a generous company in many respects and allowed their employees the freedom to do their jobs, but they didn’t hesitate to hold people accountable for breaking trust. The quality of management was as good as any audit.
