The BBC must stop box-ticking casting that 'shoe-horns' ethnic minority actors into period dramas, a review has urged.
In a damning independent report into the corporation's content, the BBC was also told it needs to improve coverage of the working class and women over 60 if it is to keep engaging audiences.
The broadcaster has been conducting 'preachy' diversity casting in a string of its dramas, resulting in ethnic minorities ending up in inappropriate settings, the review found.

It ruins movies for me, too. I’d rather have historical accuracy than political correctness. But I guess too many people will scream and holler if there isn’t diversity in the movie. Liberals have ruined movies like everything else.
I have a different take on it. When people claim that blacks were discriminated against in previous eras, I say “not true!”. Look at Bridgerton — blacks were among the aristocracy! Look at Hamilton — some of the founding fathers were black!
Wow, almost as impactful as an inspector general report. Do pedestrians need to stand aside to avoid all the heads that will be rolling in the streets or something?
How does damning report rate on the scale of sternly worded letter?
It means:
Black ... check.
Gay ... check.
Trans ... check.
And then casting them in roles that are historically NOT those things and in which they DO NOT belong.
WTH does that mean?
Zulu is one of the best movies ever made.
Michael Cane was amazing.

Mary Queen of Scots a particularly vile and egregious offender.

“box-ticking casting that ‘shoe-horns”
“WTH does that mean?”
I’m going to explain it because I actually thought that was my own made up term.
Shoe horn-A curved piece of polished horn, wood, or metal used to facilitate the entrance of the foot into a shoe
One reason to use a shoe horn is that your foot doesn’t fit in the shoe. Forcing obviously wrong people into movie parts is therefore called “shoe horning”. I’ve been using that term for quite some time. Like these days anytime there is a white family get together in a movie inevitably one of the white family member will have a black significant other.
Election coming and they need the White vote?
Box ticking?
No, the BBC is purely a racist entity. All leadership positions are now either African or Paki, often as not women.
Marriages are interracial. There are few white on white marriages. One of the pardners must be colored.
Even in the faraway Shetland Islands both Afro’s and Paki’s prevail.
The BBc programming has become unwatchable. The once great Midsummer Murders has been destroyed by the BBC racists
Pakis control the purse strings and pay the bills.

That term you’re using to describe black people is an outdated term and we are no longer using it after 1960s unless you are referring to a historical institution such as a baseball league that consisted of all-black teams.
They ruined the second installment of WOLF HALL the same way. I just binged THE TUDORS, which was produced in 2007, and was relieved at the absence of black actors in its depiction of 16th Century England.
When something is 100% diverse it’s not worth watching , no story or entertainment . That new Star Trek , garbage
I watched part of an episode of Bridgerton last night with the wife and was shocked to see a black queen in England in the 1820s. The main character throws a party and all of high society shows up, including an asian woman and her daughters. (She looks Vietnamese, but I didn’t look her up to be sure).
I pointed out these likely historical inaccuracies to the wife. I don’t THINK the BBC is responsible for this series, but it’s rife throughout all produced content these days it seems.
I watched a video the other day about the Mongols attempting to conquer Japan. At one point WWII destroyers showed up as Mongol ships. In another scene, Mongol warriors are marching on a road on one of the smaller islands and there were telephone poles and lines. The overall story was good but the AI was inexcusable for these mistakes.
Samir Shah is an Indian-born convert to Islam. It's just a matter of time until the BBC's community-sensitive programming starts featuring British muslim culture. Or foreign muslim culture. Or islamic history. Or islamic war films. Just don't expect any muslim comedies or vintage costume dramas—much less romance (in the traditional British sense).
