We’ll begin by acknowledging the counterarguments:
Tom Brady won a Super Bowl without Bill Belichick as head coach; Belichick never won a Super Bowl as head coach without Brady. (Although he won two Super Bowls as the Giants’ defensive coordinator.)
Yes, the spectacle of his teenybopper girlfriend is a weird look for a 73-year-old, no-nonsense head coach.
Going 4-8 at the lowly University of North Carolina screams, “The game passed him by.”
All of the above are true. (Especially #1: In the NFL, Willies and Joes matter FAR more than X’s and O’s — and if you don’t believe me, consider the fact that Barry freaking Switzer has more Super Bowl rings than Hall of Fame head coaches Bud Grant and Marv Levy — or Hall of Very Good head coaches Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, George Allen, and Chuck Knox.) Tom Brady, who played at an elite level for 20+ years, mattered more for the Pats/Bucs success than any of their coaches, Belichick included.
But that doesn’t change the fact that Bill Belichick was one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game.

Of course Vrabel played most of his NFL career for Belichick, so there is that.
More specifically, Neil O'Donnell let that Super Bowl.
But the term of the Patriots' perennial duration in the cellar prior to Belichick is considerable.
I admit, I'm biased. I just loved watching Walsh's teams play. It was just heady football, always the unexpected executed brilliantly, yet not at all lacking guts, as that first goal-line stand against Pete Johnson and the Bengals illustrated.
Well I could say the same about Walsh benefitting from Joe Montana, as I would about Belichick benefitting from Brady.
I will also grant that Walsh has a heckuva lot more successful coaching tree than Belichick. But Belichick did it longer at the high level that’s all I’m saying.
Not really "arguable." He is.
I think these pics sum up why the leftist weenie sportswriters (and one bitter former GM of the Colts and Bills) snubbed him:
That picture right there makes him a hall of famer in my book !
Except Bill Walsh hadn't also won 2 Super Bowls as a Defensive Coordinator, like Belichick did with the Giants. That included the 1986-7 season in which the Giants D gave up only 23 total pts by opponents in 3 playoff games - still an NFL record. And Bill Parcells never won another Super Bowl without him.
Even when Brady sucked - like in Super Bowl LIII when he had no TDs and an INT - Belichick's D still limited the then-#1 Rams offense to just 3 pts, and the Pats won 13-3.
Dig my gold baby !

Belichick has only one flaw:
Belichick’s career winning percentage of .647 ranks 19th among 207 all-time qualifiers for the metric in NFL history.
And only three coaches were ever picked for the HOF in their first ballot:
Don Shula (1997): The winningest coach in NFL history and leader of the 1972 undefeated Dolphins.
Chuck Noll (1993): Led the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl victories.
Tom Landry (1990): Coached for 29 years with the Dallas Cowboys, including 20 consecutive winning seasons.

“While I think he should be in the HOF, those two Super Bowls were almost 100% due to Bill Parcells.”
Dunno.
January 4th, 1987 the Giants beat SF in the playoffs 49-3.
Held the red hot Joe Montana Niners to 3 points and knocked Joe out of the game. It may be the best defense in the history of the game.
What an incredible break down by Bill Belichick on the “Malcolm Go!” play. I remember watching this thinking “why isn’t he taking a timeout??”. That’s why I’m on the couch.https://x.com/MJRodnick/status/2016477603645751507
TDS strikes again.
I think some HOF committee members didn’t vote for him because they’re not convinced he’s fully retired.
40 minutes of possession time for the Giants won that Super Bowl.
This shows why I think Vince Lombardi is THE greatest coach not only in NFL history, but in all American sports.
The team that won the NFL championship in 1961 was comprised mostly of the same players they had when they were 1-10-1 in 1958. Lombardi wasn’t just a great football coach … he had an extraordinary ability to mold men and get the best out of his players.
If Drew Bledsoe doesn’t get badly injured, Brady doesn’t start, and the rest of history is different. Remember, the year before, Belichick didn’t want Brady until the sixth round, so it looks like he just lucked out big time after a debacle as head coach of the Browns and a minor stint with the Giants. Not saying he didn’t learn from his mistakes and didn’t win all those titles, but…his players did it on the field.
