Bill Belichick — Arguably the Greatest Coach in NFL History — Is Snubbed by the Hall of Fame
PJ Media ^ | 28 Jan 2026 | Scott Pinsker

We’ll begin by acknowledging the counterarguments:

Tom Brady won a Super Bowl without Bill Belichick as head coach; Belichick never won a Super Bowl as head coach without Brady. (Although he won two Super Bowls as the Giants’ defensive coordinator.)

Yes, the spectacle of his teenybopper girlfriend is a weird look for a 73-year-old, no-nonsense head coach.

Going 4-8 at the lowly University of North Carolina screams, “The game passed him by.”

All of the above are true. (Especially #1: In the NFL, Willies and Joes matter FAR more than X’s and O’s — and if you don’t believe me, consider the fact that Barry freaking Switzer has more Super Bowl rings than Hall of Fame head coaches Bud Grant and Marv Levy — or Hall of Very Good head coaches Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, George Allen, and Chuck Knox.) Tom Brady, who played at an elite level for 20+ years, mattered more for the Pats/Bucs success than any of their coaches, Belichick included.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Bill Belichick was one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game.

Pettiness and jealousy on the part of the voters. Based on numbers, arguably The Greatest coach of all time.

If you win with a bad team, you are a great coach.
If you win with Tom Brady, you may deserve to be in the HOF, but I’m not sure you are “the greatest”.

Doesn’t Belichick like Trump? This may explain the snub…

(Although he won two Super Bowls as the Giants’ defensive coordinator.)

While I think he should be in the HOF, those two Super Bowls were almost 100% due to Bill Parcells.

Nobody mentions he was a visible Trump supporter. That had to impact the media’s members vote.

Walsh was the better coach.
He revolutionized the game.

Noting both his right and left hand, I'm gonna go with jealousy.

Not a fan of Belichik or the Pats or Giants, but this is a disgrace. If Belichik doesn't get in first-ballot, no one should. The Pro Football Hall of Fame discredited itself and devalued membership for every inductee - if they have any shame at all they'll disband their selection committee and immediately announce that Belichik goes in next summer.

As for Bob Kraft, if he has any dignity he should announce he will not accept induction before Belichik. He's an owner - every one of his Super Bowl rings came courtesy of Belichik.

I don’t like the Patriots or Bill Belicheck.

However, is stupid and demonstrates how politics have overshadowed performance in the new world. He is the greatest coach by the numbers, and Brady the greatest QB.

“If you win with Tom Brady, you may deserve to be in the HOF, but I’m not sure you are “the greatest”.”
You can go around in circles all day with that reasoning. Because Tom Brady had Edelman and Gronk receiving, does that mean he’s not the GOAT? W/L versus ERA in baseball is more clear cut, no one looks at W/L anymore because if your offense is bad, you’re not going to win many games.

Agreed, But Walsh did not have the longevity or the decades long period of dominance that Belichick did.

Not the win against the Bills. Go back and look at how they defended against Kelly and crew. They used two D linemen most of the game, zeroed in on the Bills passing game (for all intents and purposes shut it down). Belichick’s D and that 3rd quarter ball control drive won that Super Bowl.

No matter how good the quarterback and receivers are, if the offensive line cannot protect the quarterback, allow time for pass routes to develop, and block for run plays, there are no Super Bowl rings. If the defense cannot hold their own, there are no Super Bowl rings.

Belichick deserves credit where credit is due.

C’mon, Man!

Walsh was great. Different era, with different conditions.

Belichick had his own creative genius that made his teams win. A lot. He deserves to be in the HOF every bit as much as Walsh.

I heard someone say that they changed the eligibility rules, making him (coaches) eligible after 1 year instead of 5.

Is that true?
