A transgender Oregon lawmaker died after suffering internal bleeding from stomach ulcers that her doctor said were brought on by stress linked to her job and a bitter recall election, according to family members and friends.
Claire Hall, a longtime Lincoln County commissioner, collapsed at her home in Newport late on January 2 and was rushed to a hospital in Portland where she died two days later at the age of 66 after doctors were unable to stop the hemorrhaging.
Her death came just days before voters were set to decide whether to remove her from office in a highly charged recall campaign that had drawn tens of thousands of dollars and inflamed political divisions across the coastal county.
Hall was one of Oregon's most prominent openly transgender elected officials.
'People kept kicking dirt, and she was prepared for it, but her body was not,' said Georgia Smith, a friend who previously worked in health care in Lincoln County, to The Oregonian.
Hall's death came just days before voters were set to decide whether to remove her from office following a highly charged recall campaign that had drawn tens of thousands of dollars and inflamed divisions in the coastal county.
The recall election had become increasingly contentious, fueled by disputes over funding at the district attorney's office, limits on public comment, and Hall's clash with another commissioner accused of workplace harassment.
Recall supporters said the effort was bipartisan and focused on governance, not identity.
Lincoln County District Attorney Jenna Wallace, who signed the recall petition as a private citizen but was not part of the campaign, said the effort had nothing to do with Hall's gender.
'The recall was about her conduct as a commissioner, not her gender identity,' Wallace said.

He already has been hence this article was written. The poor little tranny died of an ulcer caused by stress from being recalled. Never mind that ulcers are caused by a bacteria infection in the stomach.
How strange for a supposed Doctor to determine such a cause of death? Did the Coroner get a say in the matter? From the photos in the article seems as though he had an uphill struggle in the path he chose.
Yeah, they blame the recall election. Me think it is the meds and drugs involved thwt caused the bleeding ulcer. Stress? Ie the drugs thwt thing had to take, or cocaine ingested.
Depending on the agenda, if it is AIDS or transgenderism, it never is the Mengele enabling medicine at fault, but if you have an accident in 2020, yeah, cocov virus is blamed.
> ulcers that her doctor said were brought on by stress
Is this doctor from the 1800s? Maybe she had imbalanced humors? Maybe it was bad air? Maybe a wandering uterus?
Collapsed in his home. Poor guy.
THANK YOU!
The stress theory of ulcers went away years ago.
See you later, Bill.
“Is this doctor from the 1800s? Maybe she had imbalanced humors? Maybe it was bad air? Maybe a wandering uterus?”
He died from a bad case of the vapors.

Perforated ulcers are usually caused by years of NSAID use/overuse. When my husband had one, the ER doctors didn’t ask him even one question about stress levels at his job. They asked how much ibuprofen he was taking.
It’s a brutal surgery. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
“A transgender Oregon lawmaker died after suffering internal bleeding from stomach ulcer”
I can’t take all the WINNING!!!
Stomach ulcers are caused by bacteria.
It was ONE OF OREGON”S MOST PROMINENT TRANSGENDERS?????? HOW MANY ARE THERE IN THE GOVT>????
It;s a GUY, not a GAL! HE....HE....HE!
Her job was to drink all day?
Maybe stress-induced alcohol abuse and bleeding from esophageal varices
