At his first appearance at the World Economic Forum, Elon Musk predicted artificial intelligence will soon be smarter than any human alive.
“AI might be smarter than any human by the end of 2026,” Musk said, adding “no later than 2027.” Five years out, he went further: “AI will be smarter than all of humanity, collectively.”
Musk also warned that robots are coming fast — and in massive numbers. “There will be far more robots than people,” he told the globalist audience, describing an automation boom that will upend labour, economics and power structures far sooner than regulators are ready for.
Asked what drives him, Musk didn’t cite climate targets or social engineering schemes. Instead, he pointed to science fiction and turning it into reality. “I want to make science fiction not fiction forever — at some point science fiction to science fact,” he said.
Musk spoke of “giant spaceships traveling through space,” visiting other planets and star systems, adding with a shrug: “Are there aliens? Maybe there are aliens.”

R.U.R. turned out well enough.
I don’t doubt AI will be able to consume and catalogue all human knowledge that has been digitized by at least 2030. What remains entirely unclear is whether AI can create new knowledge that requires leaps of creativity.
Will AI be able to have an original thought? Or they just repeating what they taught. I’m not sure AI will have an original thought.
depending on how you define “robot” they already do
Maybe we’ll become paranoid and decide to live in Caves of Steel.
Since Musk mentioned science fiction...
The story “Farewell to the Master”, by Harry Bates, published in 1940, was the source idea for the movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still” with one notable difference.
In the movie, Klaatu was the master that was served by the robot Gort (Gnut in the story). In the print story, the roles were reversed, and the robot Gnut was the master, hence the name of the story.
In the last line of the story, Gnut said “You misunderstand, I am the master”.
Hollywood perverted the meaning of the story to advance standard liberal cold war dogma.
So, what will be the role of the robots in Musk’s AI utopia?
Will they be the masters and will humans be their slaves?
What does God say about this?
Not a future I want to be part of. I enjoy problem solving, work and self-actualization. I could go for a robot hired hand though if it were capable. In my 70’s I’m about self actualized out of some things.
Minneapolis is a pre-cursor of the future
Klaatu barada nikto.
One hazard will come when people decide that because it can outthink us that it has better values than us.
In 2024, Robert Silverberg wrote an essay in which he asserted that "With Folded Hands..." is "probably the best story ever written about robots" and suggested that Elon Musk's Optimus Generation 2 is the realization of the "humanoids" along with their worst drawbacks.
That would be a lot more fun than shooting Skeets.
Just rent a catapult to launch them over some barren piece of land, one by one. Bring your own 6 pack!
Amen!!!!
I’d pass on an Eb Dawson version robot.
Much creativity is divine in origin. ‘AI’ cannot respond to divine inspiration, and so will ultimately fail. It will do much damage before then, but it will fail.
And every robot is surveillance machine that will make your smartphone look like a privacy maven...
“It’s hard enough accepting the changes in the past 20 years..”
Which changes are you referring to?
