As I was typing in a contribution to Free Republic and ready to hit the Enter Key, it all disappeared. Yep all that I had typed had simply disappeared. No warning message, nothing. Has it happened to anyone else? Then it hit me,
Ain't that the truth. It's like Alice in Windowland -- this shortcut makes text larger, this one makes it smaller. There's one trick to zoom in, one to zoom out, one to highlight all, on and on.
I never can figure out what the reverse is for whatever-it-is I did, but at least there's CTRL Z for the usual text wipeouts.
Those responsible have been sacked
And Hugh
SHEESH!...”Then it hit me” is just another way of saying “Then it occurred to me”. Please make a note of it.
I sometime do a CTRL-A to highlight text and then, instead of CTRL C to copy it, accidently hit CTRL P - which is what I intend to do someplace else to paste it - which, if I don’t have anything on the clipboard yet, pastes a blank where my writing was...
I screwed up my response- CTRL V is for pasting - CTRL P is for printing....old age popping up...
Weirder to me is that after decades with it in my bookmarks, three times recently it has disappeared from my Brave browser.
I know EXACTLY what happened!
But first you need to answer the following True or False question:
True or False: The people following you are trying to kill you.
Answer goes HERE ____
My computer also quite for some reason yesterday afternoon, it just quit on me, so I did a hard boot and it appeared that it wasn’t going to load correctly then it finally downloaded everything, now I’m all good. Power in the house was fine.
Something like that happened to me the other day. I accidentally hit some key, or a key combination, that wiped the “post” page out, or deleted everything I’d typed, I don’t remember exactly.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I had that happen a number of times before I discovered that what had disappeared actually relocated itself into the Draft file.
Oh. That’s definitely happened to me. Especially if I browse quickly to look something up.
Best way to create a long post is to write it off-line; make sure it says what you want it to say; save the document; return to the thread you want to reply to, copy and paste your reply from your document into the Your Reply field; hit preview for a final review, then post it.
If anything goes on while you’re on Free Republic, you still have your original long reply on your computer.
Ok.
I’ve been in tech for decades, sometimes dabbling in end-user issues (NOT my preference). For the past few years, I’ve been dealing with older folks & technology, including my parents.
But the difference between them & you is that they engage after expressing frustration at a problem, the latter as you’ve done over 2 posts spanning as many months about the same posting issue.
But the prior: I just noticed that you didn’t reply ONCE in either of your posts, to ANY of those who replied (ignoring the snark comments), including yours truly.
If you’re older and having issues, I get it. You have no idea how bad of a situation I have with my parents. When I write, “I get it,” trust me: I do.
I hope you find some peace with your ‘retirement’ from FR. Seriously, be well.
Personally, my own .02: You’re making a big mistake, but that presumes you’re actually reading these comments...
