Norway’s Prime Minister Fires Off a Terse Statement in Response to Wild Trump Screed

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre replied Monday to President Donald Trump’s highly controversial letter linking his desire to acquire Greenland to being snubbed for the Nobel Peace Prize, which is given out by a committee of five chosen by the Norwegian parliament.

“I can confirm that this is a text message that I received yesterday afternoon from President Trump. It came in response to a short text message from me to President Trump sent earlier on the same day, on behalf of myself and the President of Finland Alexander Stubb,” Støre replied, adding:

"In our message to Trump we conveyed our opposition to his announced tariff increases against Norway, Finland and select other countries. We pointed to the need to de-escalate and proposed a telephone conversation between Trump, Stubb and myself on the same day. The response from Trump came shortly after the message was sent. It was his decision to share his message with other NATO leaders.

"Norway’s position on Greenland is clear. Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and Norway fully supports the Kingdom of Denmark on this matter. We also support that NATO in a responsible way is taking steps to strengthen security and stability in the Arctic. As regards the Nobel Peace Prize, I have clearly explained, including to president Trump what is well known, the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee and not the Norwegian Government."

Trump’s letter to Norway, which was first reported on by PBS late Sunday night, read, “Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT.”

The letter sparked an immediate uproar among the political class, with many pundits and observers labeling it “embarrassing” and warning that it was severely damaging NATO to the benefit of Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

"Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace..."

Why should our nation's interests in peace (or war) hinge on 19 grams of 18 carat gold? If the best course of action is to seize Greenland (I think it isn't,) why should the Nobel Peace Prize enter into the discussion?

I don't know who's being trolled at this point: Greenland, Denmark, Norway, the EU, or the American people.

“Petty grievances”. Not everything liberals say is wrong. Just like not everything conservatives say is right.

I very much appreciate much of what Trump has done. I voted for him three times. But I don’t want my kids or my grandkids to be like him. His megalomania will eventually be his downfall, if not in this world, then in the world to come.

Eurocrats are completely outclassed. Let them whine. They still think it’s 1970. Europe is a museum of antiquated thinking.

True, but liberals refuse to consider admitting they are wrong or that their ideas may have negative consequences. They doggedly stick to their views. Conservatives, being more interested in facts, reason and logic, are generally more rational and objective.

I have no idea what point you’re trying to make, but is the gist of it that we 𝘚𝘏𝘖𝘜𝘓𝘋 mold our policy on Greenland based on the President’s failure to receive an award?

So we’re now trolling NATO too. And to what end?

Agreed. Let’s apply that to our policy toward Greenland.

Newsflash. The Europeans especially the ones in charge of the EU are not our friends. They want us to maintain NATO so we can pay for their defense so they can pay for their generous welfare programs and open borders.

“”I don’t know who’s being trolled at this point: Greenland, Denmark, Norway, the EU, or the American people.””

Using the powers of logic and deduction... based on clearly observable evidence... one would have to conclude that Trump is addressing (confronting) those opposed to America’s best interests...which in this particular case refers to America acquiring Greenland for US national security purposes. If you don’t understand any of that, perhaps your understanding of the meaning of “trolling” is flawed.

But then why troll?

President Trump could outright reject our alliances and state our intention to annex Greenland.

There’s no need for clever hidden messages or irrelevant digressions about the Peace Prize.

They can't admit they're wrong, because they think they're the smarter than ordinary people. Admitting they're wrong would mean that they're not as smart as they pretend, and that would wreck their whole identity, get them voted off the island.

Liberalism is just narcissism, at cultural scale.

“”I have no idea what point you’re trying to make, but is the gist of it that we 𝘚𝘏𝘖𝘜𝘓𝘋 mold our policy on Greenland based on the President’s failure to receive an award?””

I think...

Trump is drawing a correlation to the opposition of America acquiring Greenland for our national security interests... and the opposition of most of the globalist-controlled Euro nations that have already started down the path of their own national demise via globalist agenda goals... to the apparent lack of a will to award ANY prize, let alone a peace one, to “orange man bad”. It’s political.

I also think that bringing up the ‘award’ is just his way of getting a dig in to that effect... ie that it doesn’t matter how much peace or how many wars anyone actually accomplishes. The award has become purely politically-based and is now more of a leftist popularity contest perk. And Trump knows all about that kind of BS with his experience in “pageants”.

The idiot left leaders are calling Trump a bully, but considering how some of those same nations are treating their own citizens right now... it’s a hilarious projection and a joke. A not-funny one.

IIRC the nomination period for the Nobel Peace Prize ends in January each year. President Trump was barely in office in January 2025.

Does anyone else see the conflict of these two statements appearing in the same article?
