Financial markets have taken fright amid a resumption of the row over US central bank independence between its chair and the Trump administration.
It emerged overnight that the White House was threatening to indict Jerome Powell over comments he made to Congress in relation to renovation cost over-runs at the Federal Reserve buildings in Washington DC.
Mr Powell, who has been locked in a feud with Mr Trump over the pace of interest rate cuts since his second term as president began, responded by describing the action as a "pretext" to gain more influence over US monetary policy.

So most people on this forum are not able to balance their checkbooks, is that your supposition? Then it is a given that you are not part of this group? Pray till, as you have not done so far, why this group is wrong.
I was referring to macroeconomics not personal economics.
You have damned yourself with faint praise. A PhD, one. Taught University? Two. One would suppose that a random Uber driver would have more common sense.
| Remember the debate when he said, "Just Rosie O'Donnell." Best debate evah.;-) * * * * Cuck a doodle doo! You nailed it, Rooster. President Trump is a genius... and he drives his opponents crazy. MTG, you MAGA traitor, sayonara! Massie will get booted from the House this year! Go Trump Go! |
Since you’re so smart, explain to the rest of us your position on the matter...or do you just criticize from the sidelines?

Do we know specifically what Powell says that is considered a lie?
Spoken like a poster that can’t argue the point.

BREAKING: The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, examining the $2.5 billion renovation of the Fed’s Washington headquarters and whether Powell was truthful during congressional testimony about the project.

Today’s scripted outrage from exFed officials and Wall Street commentators once again dodged the core issue of constitutional oversight, treating any legal scrutiny as an attack on “independence.”
Powell’s sworn statements on the Fed HQ project conflict with the documented record: he denied VIP dining rooms, special elevators, marble finishes, water features, and rooftop gardens, yet approved plans reportedly include all of them, and he publicly framed costs around 2.4–2.5 billion while internal materials describe a broader HQ program closer to 3.6 billion, discrepancies that underpin congressional referrals and a perjuryfocused criminal investigation.
In effect, the usual suspects were out in force defending a worldview in which the Federal Reserve stands above the U.S. Constitution, and where questioning its honesty or accountability, even in the face of such specific factual conflicts, is portrayed as illegitimate.

It seems Jerome’s Federal Reserve Palace…err HQ….was supposed to be a $2.5 Billion renovation ( a staggering sum) but with all the added features ( which he denied at hearings) will push up costs to almost $4 BILLION.
It would be helpful to see a timeline of proposed design, and any updates. That should be forthcoming in time.
On, maybe the D. C. District attorney didn’t have that as evidence to file the case…

| Thanks, Candor7. The first debate in the 2016 Election cycle was a spectacular performance by Trump. Great to see it again. And something people don't remember from that day, but it's important:
So he stole the limelight. Everybody was talking about him. And in many cases, even negative publicity works to your advantage. Ask CNN how they helped elect Trump in 2016 by giving him the spotlight. No man (or woman) has managed publicity better than Trump. He wrote the Art of the Deal basically creating something new: a business advice book! Then he did the same thing with the Apprentice. Turning business decisions into a kind of game show which incidentally dovetailed with getting approval to build Trump International in Chicago. FR's RINOs always chime in about "mean tweets" but Trump proves you can turn around a country in trouble with mean tweets. Critics like Randall Paul and Massie are just policy wonks: they wouldn't even know how to manage a lemonade stand. Trump knows how to manage America's --- and the World's problems. |
I nearly went off the road listening to the Louder With Crowder podcast, and he played the interview with RFK Jr. when asked (a setup question) about who has the most unhinged eating habits in the administration, RFK Jr. said:
"The President." The interesting thing about the president is that he eats really bad food, which is McDonald’s, and then, you know, candy and Diet Coke. He drinks the Diet Coke at all times. If you travel with him, you get this idea that he’s just pumping himself full of poison all day long. And you don’t know how he’s walking around, much less being the most energetic person, you know, any of us have ever met. He has the constitution of a deity. I don’t know how he’s alive, but he is. Trump eats fast food because he trusts it and doesn’t want to get sick when he’s on the road. At the White House or Mar-a-Lago, "he actually does eat pretty good food usually" and is "in incredible health. Dr. Mehmet Oz reviewed Trump's medical records and said he has the "highest testosterone level that he’s ever seen for an individual over 70 years old."
What made me nearly go off the road and spit out my coffee was the unhesitating alacrity with which RFK Jr. answered that question!
And the comment coming from a guy like RFK, Jr. (71) , who we KNOW to be a high energy, high fitness guy.
