According to Palm Beach Fire Rescue, lifeguards at Ocean Reef Park saw someone operating a powered paraglider when a gust of wind caused a partial parachute collapse, which caused the man to spiral into the ocean
A paraglider who fell into a Florida beach on Friday prompted a swift response by rescue crews.
According to Palm Beach Fire Rescue, lifeguards at Ocean Reef Park saw someone operating a powered paraglider when a gust of wind caused a partial parachute collapse, which caused the man to spiral into the ocean.
Fire rescue said the man fell from 500 feet in the air onto the beach, and lifeguards quickly responded to pull the man out of the water.
Video captured the paraglider heading towards the water.
When lifeguards reached the man, he was tangled in the parachute lines, but only suffered minimal injuries. Lifeguards then cut the parachute and brought him to the shore to check him for more injuries.
Riviera Beach Police said the 53-year-old man lifted off from Ocean Cay Park in Jupiter and was heading south when the incident happened.
The man is expected to be OK.

Fortunate to live through that with minimal injuries, I’d say. Well done to the rescuers!

Thank God he didn’t hit the beach. That sand can be really hard down near the water.

He should thank his lucky stars. It could have been Mars worse. Planet your feet in the wrong Spot and nobody's comet to save you..

“Riviera Beach Police said the 53-year-old man lifted off from Ocean Cay Park in Jupiter and was heading south when the incident happened.” At 53, might have entertained that thought.

Note the NBC6 reporter who couldn't determine if the man hit the beach or the ocean goes unnamed.
Head of newsroom:"That's it - you're staying here typing copy from here on out."

"Awww crap."

It was gusty all day, a poor choice of days to ride a kite. A good choice to ride it over water, however.

It was a Saturn of events for the guy. Once he recovers, I’m sure he’ll land on his feet again.
