US will control Venezuelan oil sales ‘indefinitely,’ energy secretary says

The Trump administration said Wednesday it will control Venezuela’s oil sales “indefinitely” in the wake of deposed strongman ruler Nicolás Maduro’s capture.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright asserted the US will market and sell Venezuelan crude, with proceeds held in US-controlled accounts that he said “can flow back” to Venezuela, a day after President Trump said Venezuela would turn tens of millions of barrels of oil over to the US.

“Instead of the oil being blockaded, as it is right now, we’re gonna let the oil flow … to United States refineries and around the world to bring better oil supplies, but have those sales done by the US government,” Wright said at Goldman Sachs’ Energy, CleanTech & Utilities Conference in Aventura, Fla., on Wednesday.

The US will first move to sell millions of barrels of Venezuelan crude currently stuck in storage because of US sanctions and a blockade, and then take over the sale of ongoing production for the foreseeable future, according to the energy secretary.

“We’re going to market the crude coming out of Venezuela, first this backed-up stored oil, and then indefinitely, going forward, we will sell the production that comes out of Venezuela into the marketplace,” Wright said.

On Tuesday, Trump publicly laid out his own vision for Venezuela’s oil sector following the arrest of Maduro, saying the upheaval created an opening for the US to step in and restart production.

Any way to distribute the profits directly to the public? Would it make them lazy? Sounds socialist but work requirements like we do for welfare recipients wouldn’t hurt.
Gets troubling.

Venezuela is now a protectorate of the US. No more banana republic stuff. Let the factions down there fight amongst themselves.

Has there been any reports out of Venezuela stating that the government there wants to have their oil looted in this fashion?

How does this process work if there is a Chinese oil tanker, under Chinese flag, no previous sanctions on it, and escorted by Chinese warships?

I think someone has told the president that Venezuela is poised to revolt over its government. There is no evidence of this. The videos that we see about how Venezuela citizens are celebrating appear to have 50 or 60 guys in them. They’re not packing the streets of Caracas.

And there are no US troops stationed there in a garrison configuration. There is rampant optimism in the administration that things are going exactly the way they want, and there just are no crowds in the streets. If there were we would see them. The fact we don’t see them indicates they’re not there because if they were our MSM would splash it widely.

The last point here is Rosneft. It is US propaganda that only us oil companies have the skills to make Venezuela oil flow. Rosneft is hyper competent. Oil production and output from Venezuela has risen in the past 4 years since covid. There is no technical inadequacy there.

You will get journalism talking about how infrastructure has failed and it’s all falling apart, but oil production in the past 4 years has increased even in the face of strict sanctions. Is oil production greatly decreased from 20ish years ago? Yes. And the fields that were producing that number have gone empty.

The remaining fields are very difficult oil. A huge numbers that you see published as reserves exploded onto the scene and the 2008 time frame which happened to be right around the time Chavez was suspecting and then confirming a cancer diagnosis. Reserves numbers went from 99 billion barrels to 300 plus billion barrels. It did this with no exploration budget and no announcement of new discoveries. It may not be there. Chavez needed to attract Russian and Chinese interest and he did so with those numbers.

It should be noted that Venezuela’s oil is too thick to just throw on a boat and move along, it must be thinned by naphtha first to transport. Russia is the biggest producer at this time and not a great choice either, nonetheless it will stick another fork in the Chicoms and possibly help bitch-slap Putin to settle the mess in Ukraine. There are a couple of refineries at the present time in the US that can refine this sludge.

Thanks for this.
Can you source your information here to confirm?
My impression is that removing a politician,
anywhere at anytime over any issue whatsoever, without also dealing with his constituency will have minimal even negligible effect.

He can’t source any information because he is just giving his opinion with no facts to back it up.

look at the staggering fraud that took place in our own country even when politicians had already known about it. I doubt we know the extent even now of the Somali pirates scam.

I don’t care who is in office. We have no business commandeering that oil after taking out a leader.

I am sure a lot of people say the same thing when Cia overthrows governments.

to this day there are people on this site that gaslight and try to claim Pinochet wasn’t a murderous thug.

We can’t manage systematic fraud in our own country. The Somali looting shows that.

As harshly as everybody here turned on W and spent the last 5 years sounding like leftists let loose from DU screaming about nation building, no more foreign adventures, and whatever they else pilfered from the code pink playbook —

It would be nice if the many barking seals trained to clap on command just took a moment — just a brief moment — to apologize and admit they weren’t standing on any kind of real principle... just barking the slogans the moment required of them.

Trump needs to keep open account of where oil revenue is going and actively explain why, making it clear that we get nothing other than compensation for the assets that the commies stole from Americans.

National Emergency regarding Venezuela started under Obama.

It looks like it might get ended under Trump.

And if there is any fire to the stolen election having any Venezuela ties smoke, many might be wondering why it took this long to deal with a foreign enemy, and any domestic enemies they were allied with.

And start to actually blame Trump for not doing this fast enough.

We’ll see if we ever get to that point.

Commandeering and controlling the oil will keep the current regime under control. That’s how we keep from putting boots on the ground. That’s how the free and fair elections will come about. That’s how we get the big oil companies in the country to rebuild the infrastructure. That’s how we ensure money starts flowing into the economy so the average Venezuelan can eat.

We have every business doing this. We are the big dog on the block. It is our business to police our neighborhood when it starts to go bad.

You need to buck up a little because we are likely going to have to spank Petro down in Columbia and Gloria Sheinbaum in Mexico before this is over. Those drug cartels in Mexico aren’t going to kill themselves.
