This is wha the ice fog in Fairbanks looks like today. It is a clear day. This is frozen exhaust. Mostly ice crystals.

One year at Malmstrom AFB, MT, I watched EB-57s taking off leaving contrails on the runway. The air temp was close to -30F.

We had “freezing fog” a few years ago. It was really neat to look at but nasty in every other way.

Lived in AK early 80s - most unusual domestic/human sight I remember is seeing all the cars in the parking lots running while folks were in the stores shopping (Fairbanks) 20/30 below and no where to plug-in the block heaters. My ‘78 Mercury only got 15mpg - hated the cold.

Need to visit again - lot of changes there in the last 40+ years...

Spent some time in northern Maine. When the car wouldn’t start it had to be pulled or I missed work. Rotten crap weather! I wouldn’t live there again even if I could stay inside all winter, which I can now as I’m retired.
