To some people, earbuds are life.
Girl was probably just trying to enjoy some Modern English on the job when one of her earbuds fell out and dropped right into the deep fryer. And then, reportedly, she reached in to try to get it out.
Believe it or not, the woman suffered burns to her hand and was treated by an EMS crew and promptly transported to the hospital.
I don't know about you, but I'm gonna go ahead and just assume they cleaned out that fryer.

I’m reminded of line from an Alistair MacLean novel about a solider being shot because he had “too quick reflexes”
This never would have happened if he’d been paid $25 an hour.
I pray not, but is this a possible candidate for a future Darwin Award?
Should there be a new Darwin Award classification for actions that just maim?
Will there be new mandatory OSHA regulations that include the directive to avoid contact between human flesh and deep fryers?

Poor Sweetheart. I’ll bet she screamed so loud, you would have thought somebody’s Chicken McNuggets had been miscounted! Article does not say what brand the earbuds were.
Somebody at home is going to encourage her to ‘Sue!’
“I don’t see no signs on the Earbud Instructions not to do that! Do you see any kind of sign? See what I’m talking about? Nothing!! That’s not right!”
Once that ear bud fell into the fryer, it was destroyed, and the fact that this girl thought she could retrieve it, and it would continue to work is absolutely amazing

Should operating a deep fryer be considered hazardous work requiring training and licensing?

A long time ago a coworker’s teenage daughter was badly burned on her arm at McDonald’s by a splash of hot fat from the french fry vat.
Someone said “Didn’t she follow the safety techniques they’re all taught?”
She did. The stupid girl next to her didn’t and made a mistake and suddenly dropped the fryer basket and the splash hit the innocent girl.
There are a lot of dangers in fast food even before being victimized by the bloodthirsty heathens who are called “customers” who go postal.
When I was a teenager, 15-18 years old, I worked for Krystal and a similar chain in the early 70’s.
One of my jobs was to drain and clean the two deep fryers, and add new lard, on Saturday mornings............
RE: Workers shouldn’t be using distractions like earbuds to listen to music while working.
Worker listening to rap music and moving around in time.
Worker: “Huh? What?”
Boss: “I said you’re fired.”
