A Statesville man will spend the next 20 years at least in prison after killing three people in a deadly golf cart crash in 2022.
A jury found Austin Harmon guilty of three counts of felony death by vehicle, three counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, and driving while impaired at the conclusion of his trial on Dec. 15.

A 2009 Honda Accord driven by Harmon, who was 23 at the time, hit a golf cart carrying a family of five in Statesville on June 13, 2022.
Michael Shane Marlowe, 39, was driving the cart. Michael and his 5-year-old son, Shane Marlowe, both died in the crash. The three other passengers, Michael’s wife, their 13-year-old daughter, Jada, and their 2-year-old daughter, were flown to hospitals by medical helicopters.
The toddler had a broken jaw and two broken legs after the crash. Her mother had part of one of her legs amputated.

I’m assuming Statesville N.C.?
So had the automobile driver driven onto a golf course, or what?
I once lived in a retirement community which was embedded in a golf course - and at a few points, golfers had to cross city streets to go from one link to the next; perhaps this was the case in this instance.
Am not trying to minimize the guilt of the automobile driver - just wondering about additional circumstances.
Regards,
The Villages in FL has never had anything even close to this happen. Down there, if you see guys as young as this guy was, they’re probably just there working for a contractor, delivering newspapers, picking up the garbage or as part of a golf course maintenance crew.
Yes, NC.
Or Statesville VA. but it would have to be a lot bigger than I remember....
Checked and yes, thanks!
“”and driving while impaired at the conclusion of his trial””
They still let him drive after ALL that? LOL
What a horrible accident! This happened in 2022. It sure takes a long time for cases to come to trial. 20 years seems light for killing 3 people.
"Justice delayed is justice denied" used to be a thing, but now it's just a result of spending time and money doing the wrong thing and then wondering "how did things get to be this bad??????"
I found another article that said the golf cart was being operated on a public road.
“Wish the article had provided a few salient details about the location”
Par for the course nowadays, unfortunately. Our local rags usually fail to report the day or date an event occurred. Makes it very hard to reason outward about other facts when they leave such basic elements out of the story.
“Her mother had part of one of her legs amputated.”
Which part, the upper or the lower?
Don’t know about Statesville but that’s legal on the residential streets in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Unless someone else poured alcohol down his mouth, he deliberately got behind the wheel drunk.
Hang him for 1st degree murder.
“Hang him for 1st degree murder.”
Agreed. The public is not being protected letting this murderer out to kill again. Justice is certainly not served.
“As it was going down the road, a car driving in the opposite direction crossed the center line, hitting the cart, troopers said.”
From linked article.
Anyone know with what speed the killer was driving? 30 mph? 50 mph? 75 mph?
