Florida's favorite grocery store slammed for 'criminal' prices as customers protest 'ridiculous' cost of meat

Publix has long been considered Florida's favorite supermarket, but it seems customers are turning their backs on the grocery giant.

One frustrated shopper recently took to Reddit to air their grievances after picking up a prime tenderloin steak at a Publix store in Yulee, Florida.

A photo of the package showed the meat priced at a jaw-dropping $61.49 — or $49.99 per pound.

'This is criminal,' the customer wrote.

'You can get a full ribeye or tenderloin dinner with table bread, 2 sides and softdrinks in Florida at a Outback, texas roadhouse or Longhorn for $26 - $31,' one wrote.

'Publix is wildly overpriced,' someone else chimed in.

“What isn’t cheaper? Beef.”

Because of the Biden Beef Blockade

Well, $300 a week for two people is living pretty good.

I go there too. They carry my favorite Florida made hot sauce (Datl Do It)

I usually buy every bottle on the shelf.

“Outback, Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn likely aren’t selling Prime.”

Years ago, we used to eat at Outback. Somewhere about ten years ago we became totally dissatisfied and quit going.

About four years ago we got a gift card and went back. Never again.

We did use the rest of the card at Aussie Grill for burgers.

We only go to Publix for the BOGOs. We have to do the majority of grocery shopping at Walmart or Aldi.
I really like Publix but as you noted the prices are too high.
I even get 6% of my purchases with reward dollars from my AMEX card.

I appreciated that the Publix in Columbus, GA sometimes carried Drake’s products (Ring Dings, Funny Bones). In Florida, they are practically the only “normal” supermarket in most places (Aldi is not full spectrum, Walmart is not just a supermarket, Winn-Dixie is going under). But it was NEVER inexpensive. It is like Stop & Shop in the Northeast, and Safeway in Phoenix. Best for loss leader specials ONLY.

Datl Do It is very nice but has high fructose corn syrup, or at least it did the last time I bought a bottle. I do love that the heat isn’t unbearable though.

From the Daily Mail in UK.

So they show almost the most expensive piece of beef at Publix, which is always high price.

Have you ever been in a Publix store? It is the cleanest, neatest store I've ever been in. And the Staff there is always the nicest, most knowledgeable workers anywhere.

How much is a bone-in ribeye in England?

I just stopped eating beef unless it is locally sourced.

Wasn’t rising beef prices predicted recently due to far less, for some reason, beef on the hoof?

The Kroger closest to me is abysmal, so my next nearest option is Walmart. Meijer is like Walmart, and only slightly better, but it’s further. I wish I had a Publix near me!

I agree. AND, their shopping carts are the best. No flat wheels, easy to maneuver, and always clean.

Compared to WalMart or other stores, their meat LOOKS good but it ain’t the same quality as Publix.

I paid $146 for 3.8 pounds of beef tenderloin. Expensive? Yes! But for me, it was about convenience and time. I could have paid a lot less elsewhere but chose Publix. The end. Everybody has that opportunity. So let’s cut the “criminal” verbiage and whining.

"All those EBT cards and government giveaways for food are used to purchase premium meat for resale at cents on the dollar."

There you go....that puts a whole bunch of stuff in perspective. If you're wondering why things are so fouled up at the grocery store well, there it is.

From the looks of her fingernails, I would bet they cost more than the meat

Yes! The pic is of a pound and a quarter, well over two 8 ounce servings.
