Out of the 32,788 burglaries reported in London last year, only seven resulted in a suspect actually being charged. Data cited by the Daily Mail shows the Metropolitan Police accounted for roughly two-thirds of all recorded theft cases in the UK in 2024. Greater Manchester recorded nearly 10,000 burglaries, while South Yorkshire followed with 6,694 cases.
The figures come as burglary remains a common experience for many households across the country. One in five UK adults have expressed experiencing either a burglary or attempted burglary. Because of this, the UK’s Labour Party remains under pressure to crack down on theft, particularly during the holiday season.
"It is hugely important to ensure your home is as safe as possible all year round, but particularly in the winter when days are darker for longer,” Matthew Harwood, home insurance expert at Confused.com told the outlet. “Simple steps like motion-activated lights, smart doorbells or upgrading locks can make a huge difference. This will help deter opportunist thieves who might take advantage of shorter days and darker evenings as a chance to break into a home.”
Survey data cited in the report shows more than half of 2,000 UK homeowners surveyed between July 25 and July 30 said they rely on outdoor lighting as their primary form of security, while just over a third reported having alarm systems installed. Cash and wallets were the most commonly stolen items, followed by jewelry and bicycles.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this year an interactive map of 36,000 neighborhoods that identified burglary hotspots across England and Wales, with some of the worst-affected areas located in London’s Mayfair and Soho. The area around Regent Street recorded 282 break-ins. Separate figures from Policy Exchange found that London’s West End accounts for more knife crime than nearly 15 per cent of the rest of the capital combined.
Several high-profile burglaries have also drawn attention to the issue. Among recent victims were actress Michelle Keegan and her husband Mark Wright, who experienced a break-in at their £3.5 million home in Essex last year.

Most consumer stuff is cheap. My 43” TV cost me $140. My laser printer was $60.

Then there’s jewelry, antiques, paintings and cameras.
Jewelry could be kept in a safety deposit box.
Probably only a few hundred places in the UK sell paintings for more than 100 pounds or pay more than 40 pounds to obtain one for sale.
As for antiques, if more than 40 pounds/$60 is or might be paid to acquire an item for sale, then maybe it should have to be scanned by a Scotland Yard or FBI app before money is paid on it or it is offered for sale.
As for cameras, if more than 40 pounds/$60 is or might be paid to acquire a camera for sale, then maybe its brand, model number and serial number should have to be given to a Scotland Yard or FBI website before money is paid on it or it is offered for sale.

It predates the reverse colonial invasion.
It isn’t burglary, it’s spreading the wealth and generating enterprise. And the good part is it is reusing resources as they can be sold many times over.

That was all that the BLM, “defund the police” nonsense really boiled down to, which was the criminal class demanding to be allowed to commit their crimes without consequence, and to be gifted the ability to persecute you as a “racist” if you pointed out the truth.

Europe is gone.
Stolen items may not sell for much, but in all western countries I believe the main motive for burglary (and car break-ins) is to obtain items for cheap re-sale to feed a drug habit. Only a few high-end thieves are making a big profit from their activities. I also believe the number of thefts can be divided by 50 to 100 to obtain the number of thieves active. On the basis of once or twice a week to feed the drug habit, these petty crooks are active quite often, there are nowhere near as many individuals as there are incidents.
What’s happening in London is the exact same thing we see happening in America.
A gang of more than 30 young delinquents storms and overwhelms a store, robs everything, and just walks away. We see videos like this every day in America. That doesn’t mean America is “gone,” as you say. It means new policies need to be put in place and laws need to be enforced. Trump is doing his best to fix a broken America, but that can’t be done in a year. Europe is tightening the consequences for delinquents as well.

I have four British friends in my life.
The first one emigrated to Australia about 17 years ago for better economic opportunities, which worked. He’s retired by about age 50. Unfortunately, he’s a Jew in Australia and at risk of being attacked by muslims.
The second one is 23 years old, and tied for the smartest guy I’ve ever met. We were realizing just how bright this kid was when one of the other guys asked him in a totally random conversation to quote some Shakespeare on the subject. He thought for a second and launched into two minute Sonnet directly on point. He went to LSE, and is likely to be the George Orwell of his generation. His project is a movie on the Fall of Britain. He left for good last year, knowing there is no use fighting, never to return again.
The third one is retired and looking hard at emigrating. The security situation is untenable as he ages.
The fourth one is an ex-paratrooper who is preparing for the civil war he expects to kick off any day / month / year. He’s trying to decide whether to fight to the death for what little freedom remains, or take me up on my offer to sponsor him for citizenship here. He assures me that the UK can field at most 27,000 fighters. We have more battle experienced fighters at my local base near Tacoma (JBLM). We are both confident Tacoma could take out the UK with very little fighting.
No Brit I know wants to stay.
