I stopped giving during the covid outbreak when the CEO said white people’s donation needs to come with an apology. I had nothing to apologize for.

I'm not surprised by this. After the Salvation Army called all white people racist, their collections dropped off.

I suspect they're forced to hire bell ringers instead of having volunteers.

The volunteers would be in nice uniforms outside 1st tier chain stores whereas now I see people who look like they're homeless, wearing just a Salvation Army apron, outside 2nd and 3rd tier stores.

I remember news stories from prior years. One story in particular stuck in my mind: Salvation Army buckets no longer accept money with pictures of white people on them. I reminded a bell-ringer of this story this year when he got aggressive about my donating. "Sorry, all my money have pictures of white people on them." That shut him up.

Funny part, the bell-ringer was white, and was dressed like a homeless person. Part-time job away from the campsite, perhaps?

I remember that, and at the time I thought WTH, someone was hired into the marketing department to push that BS on purpose to depress donations, to piss off the base, to essentially ruin the SA.

Translation: to take down yet another tradition of our country.
