Rob Reiner: Everything wrong with liberal policies, in one news story
American Thinker ^ | 27 Dec, 2025 | Nick Lopez

Rob Reiner lived his politics, we can say that much about him at least.

As more time passes, more comes out about how the Reiner household actually ran … a bit like Portland, Oregon; from what I can tell … except, rich … and with at least one highly successful citizen.

The Reiner household had all the much sought-after liberal social programs the blue state governors want most … in a platinum encrusted, limited edition, home version of the game.

Universal Basic Income (check): Nick Reiner got $10,000 a month plus expenses.

Universal Healthcare (check): Nick got 17 trips to rehab. This wasn’t public health style rehab, either, it was private, with intensive, personalized treatment plans, and lots of personal attention.

Unlimited Second Chances (check): 17 visits to rehab. Seventeen chances in a highly structured, expensive facility, not the L.A. County Jail.

Tolerance of escalating drug use (check): Nick went from booze, to weed, to coke, to Herion, to meth … and nobody cut him out of their lives, or kicked him off the Reiner Family Welfare Programs.

Reluctance to utilize police (check): apparently Conan O’Brian was instrumental in keeping concerned guests at his holiday party from calling law enforcement regarding Nick’s distself-helphavior at his party. Had police been called, the Reiners might be alive today. Apparently, police involvement would’ve been too embarrassing for O’Brian … so, ya know, none were called.

A self-help approach to serious mental illness? (sure to come up at trial … so possible check) it seems like Nick should have been institutionalized, whether from drugs alone, or drugs plus serious mental illness, which was left basically untreated. That seems to be a factor in the Reiner saga. Much like Soros judges refusing to incarcerate people who are likely to light other commuters on

>> when is Nick Reiner gonna take responsibility? <<

You may find this interesting. Dennis Prager's son talking about his recovery. The key was taking responsibilty for his own problems and eventually returing to a faith driven life AND he eplains how well meaning family members can enable the addiction life style.

Yes, a terrible combo.

Apparently the author needs to research our broken mental health system and laws:

“it seems like Nick should have been institutionalized,”

The problem with that statement is that you cannot force anyone into a mental institution or drug rehab. Even if the person has been diagnosed with a serious mental illness and you have millions upon millions to pay for a pricey private institution.

The only way these people end up institutionalized is when they commit a crime serious enough to be sent into one by the courts — although many severely mentally ill people simply cycle through the court and prison system, never seeing the inside of a mental institution or getting proper treatment.

I’m not excusing the Reiners, mind you. Giving a drug addict $10,000/mo is like saying “here, go buy all the drugs you want”. Talk about enabling!

I read that too. She has anxiety and depression. And, and I’m sorry this is a huge red flag, she lives across the street from her parents and she is 28 years old. Did she by herself a big house on very expensive house in Brentwood or did her parents bankroll it and did they do so to keep her close by?

“”Nick’s distself-helphavior””

When do we get a tutorial on new vocabulary words?

It seems like Nick should have been institutionalized, whether from drugs alone, or drugs plus serious mental illness, which was left basically untreated.... the issues were obviously not addressed in the Reiner household correctly.

Not blaming the Reiners on this one. You can't force a person into treatment who is not an immediate danger to.self or others. And if he is treated he is let out far too soon. Any family struggling with a child's serious mental illness learns this.

Blame the liberals for laws giving the mentally ill the right refuse treatment. Blame the conservatives for not funding treatment. We have 1/100 the psychiatric hospital beds that we used to have.

... almost 20 joints a day...

Assuming she sleeps10-12 hours a day, that’s a serious fog.

Why is there no coverage of the funerals. One would expect a big Hollywood funeral.

Because the "17 trips to rehab" Nick was the cover story of Reiner's death at Gitmo.

They’ll let him out in a few years with all the meathead’s money and he will blow it all or OD trying.

Unless there was a physical attack, the police would have been powerless to do anything.

The most they could have done was ask the parties to separate themselves from each other.

it seems like Nick should have been institutionalized

While I agree with most of the article, I think people don’t realize how hard it is to get “institutionalized”. Especially for an adult child over 18. Check the city streets for evidence of how hard it is.

Rob was teaching others how to raise children while being a miserable failure at it.

A meathead to the very end. Next up, eternity.

It appears Meathead never taught his kids personal responsibility or self control.

You cannot expect a raging schizophrenic to have self control. That’s why they were locked up. That is why there were straight jackets.

Rob Reiner was consumed with burning hatred. He hated Trump, Republicans, evangelicals, and just about anyone who disagreed with his warped politics. That hate vibrated within his wealthy, privlidged home. It no doubt affected his family and ultimately resulted in his destruction.
