Rob Reiner: Everything wrong with liberal policies, in one news story
American Thinker ^ | 27 Dec, 2025 | Nick Lopez

Rob Reiner lived his politics, we can say that much about him at least.

As more time passes, more comes out about how the Reiner household actually ran … a bit like Portland, Oregon; from what I can tell … except, rich … and with at least one highly successful citizen.

The Reiner household had all the much sought-after liberal social programs the blue state governors want most … in a platinum encrusted, limited edition, home version of the game.

Universal Basic Income (check): Nick Reiner got $10,000 a month plus expenses.

Universal Healthcare (check): Nick got 17 trips to rehab. This wasn’t public health style rehab, either, it was private, with intensive, personalized treatment plans, and lots of personal attention.

Unlimited Second Chances (check): 17 visits to rehab. Seventeen chances in a highly structured, expensive facility, not the L.A. County Jail.

Tolerance of escalating drug use (check): Nick went from booze, to weed, to coke, to Herion, to meth … and nobody cut him out of their lives, or kicked him off the Reiner Family Welfare Programs.

Reluctance to utilize police (check): apparently Conan O’Brian was instrumental in keeping concerned guests at his holiday party from calling law enforcement regarding Nick’s distself-helphavior at his party. Had police been called, the Reiners might be alive today. Apparently, police involvement would’ve been too embarrassing for O’Brian … so, ya know, none were called.

A self-help approach to serious mental illness? (sure to come up at trial … so possible check) it seems like Nick should have been institutionalized, whether from drugs alone, or drugs plus serious mental illness, which was left basically untreated. That seems to be a factor in the Reiner saga. Much like Soros judges refusing to incarcerate people who are likely to light other commuters on

I agree with that. Somehow this won’t end up in a big trial. That is why this high powered attorney was hired.

I believe you’ve answered your own question. Why has the story disappeared?

Answer: “The Reiner story exposes the wide spread dysfunction of Hollywood culture.”

I’ve never had any particular affinity for “Movie Stars”, but many, many people do. And many idolize them. The ‘magic’ of Hollywood must be preserved, otherwise the whole reason for it existing dissolves. Ignoring the Reiner slayings is part of that ongoing effort.

So Rob Reiner wasn't really acting when he played the Meathead on All In The Family. Unfortunately, his real life son didn't have an Archie Bunker to have him baptized and teaching him common sense, or give him tough love.

I think Nick will beg for the court’s mercy because now he’s an orphan. Leftist’s never take responsibility for their actions.

Some people can handle inherited wealth—and find their own purpose and niche.

Obviously it helps if they have some real skills/talents.

In addition strong parenting is critical. Having hired help replace the parents rarely works well.

If I were the parent in that situation the most important thing to teach the child is to never virtue signal.

Do good deeds—but don’t lecture others about how they should behave and don’t brag about your wealth or good deeds.

An anonymous donation to a cause shows great character—and character is critical.

I figure he will be put in a mental health facility and if he is ever deemed sane, he will be moved to a prison.

Anyone stupid enough to ever let this murderous maniac loose again deserves the same fate as the Reiners.

That said, there are many really stupid people out there.

i understand they were cremated- not exactly acceptable in Jewish practice. not sure they were observant anyway. so suspect they decided on big secular-ish memorial down the road.

All she really did was accelerate his demise......it appears Reiner did something very similar.

His son’s ... and, his own.

My all-time least favorite TV character was the Meathead. He would have lasted about three milliseconds in my house. I don’t know how much, if any, of himself Reiner brought to the role, but..

See my response above at #23. It appears that Reiner wasn't really acting. I can't remember him in any other show or movie either.

Archie Bunker was not Meathead’s father! He was the father-in-law.

Re: Quote from William K. Vanderbilt,"Inherited wealth is a real handicap to happiness. It is as certain a death to ambition as cocaine is to morality."

This scenario was likely worse than inheritance. Carl Reiner lived until 2020 so it's likely that little of Nick's money (and problems) came from any inheritance after 2020.

If it was inheritance, Nick would have been able to make his own decisions with less control from his father, Rob.

This scenario is more likely the version we see repeatedly where children are props for Hollywood parents. The money was used to control him, not help him. If he had been born a decade or two later, his parents would be publicly virtue signaling his "transgenderism", "non-binary" etc.

From what I can tell, a lot of them appear to be judges.

Evil and stupid judges.

Did you see Massachusetts is letting people out of prison that are in there for murders and had life sentences without parole?

What a vicious hateful slam to families of victims and an extreme danger to society.

Archie Bunker was not Meathead’s father! He was the father-in-law.

I didn't write that he was, but Nick Reiner was Rob Reiner's son, and he didn't have an Archie Bunker in his life to counteract his idiot father.

Much as I like blaming liberal Reiner for all of his son’s destructive behavior-————when is Nick Reiner gonna take responsibility?

Well, I think the point of this analysis is that Nick will NEVER take responsibility, because the liberal mindset is that the individual is never to blame. And this isn't so much blaming Reiner as blaming the liberal mindset in general. See, the author is saying, it doesn't work. Even with unlimited funding.

Not a very well proofread article.

Eh, not so badly written! I found only two really stand-out errors:

Tolerance of escalating drug use (check): Nick went from booze, to weed, to coke, to Herion Heroin, to meth … and nobody cut him out of their lives, or kicked him off the Reiner Family Welfare Programs.

Reluctance to utilize police (check): apparently Conan O’Brian was instrumental in keeping concerned guests at his holiday party from calling law enforcement regarding Nick’s distself-helphavior self-destructive??? self-help behavior?? at his party.
