A potent winter storm brings blizzard conditions to the Great Lakes and dangerous icing to the Northeast Sunday through Monday. Simultaneously, an arctic front plunges southward to clash with record warmth across the South.

Sounds similar to us for rural but we’re on the grid. We do know people. though, who live like you used to. Very inaccessible and off grid.
I grew up in the Buffalo area (NORTH of Buffalo though) and moved to the Syracuse area when we got married. The Southern Tier of NY is GORGEOUS and my favorite part of the state.
Don’t miss the government, taxes, or snow with its pervasive overcast. Do miss the wonderful house we left though.

Honestly, if there’s ice coming, it’s often better to leave the snow on and let the ice fall on that. That way the ice doesn’t bond to the surface of anything but can be scraped off easily cause of the snow.
Not enough people know this

It’s free. You just subscribe on youtube. It’s a 24 hr automated update for the whole country. It does one area or region at a time. Just an overview of the weather not really detailed. If you don’t like it, you can just unsubscribe. I had my air conditioner on and off all day yesterday. We’ll get a few cold days after this. This winter has felt like summer to me. I prefer cooler temps!

Ryan does a heckuva job...his forecasts are usually spot on.
This one doesn’t affect me but I watch his forecasts anyway...

Wood stoves are great.
Even Oil and Gas heat use electrical power to control the furnace, so in an outage, I freeze. And so do the pipes, eventually.
I sure do miss Florida.

No Problem. When I want to be "in the wind", I just hop onto my Harley.
Yeah...the elderly widow who posts a daily prayer thread on FR still rides.

I worked in weather for a local TV station for a period of time in the early 90s. My Dad always said that it was the perfect job for me. - I get paid to be wrong.
It’s a forecast.
They predict what is likely to happen. It could happen. It could be better. It could be worse.
If they didn’t warn people of storms like this, they’d be castigated for that.
Damned if they do, and damned if they don’t.

We hit 6F this morning. Got the well house heater going, but still no water. Once we get some daylight, I have another one for under the house.

Why do so many people panic about the changing seasons? It happens a few times a year. This one is called winter. It is usually colder with some snow and ice. GET OVER IT.

Do what you can to stay SAFE, Mom! Not much you can do about the weather. ;)
We had heavy fog to drive through last night, and some this morning as we go to our last Christmas Family Get-Together. About 6pm tonight brings SNOW and close to 30MPH winds and 45 MPH gusts. Ugh!
SW corner of Wisconsin. A High of FORTY TWO today, drizzly, then 19 degrees and snow by Monday morning. It’s always an adventure (read: Cr@pshoot, LOL!) in the Wintertime by us.
I got a new bread machine for Christmas, so as long as the power holds, I’ll have fun playing with that white the storm rages around me. :)
Merry Christmas!

Ice storms are not the norm for winter.
If it were snow, yeah. But ice? Ice is nothing to mess with.
