There are no documented survivors of Unit 731, the covert department of the Imperial Japanese army that conducted lethal experiments on thousands of civilians in occupied China.
As it sought to develop chemical and nuclear weapons, the unit subjected its mostly Chinese victims to a catalogue of horrors beyond the human imagination between 1936 to 1945, when the Empire of Japan surrendered.
Civilians were dissected alive without without anesthesia, infected with bubonic plague, typhus and cholera and used as human guinea-pigs for frost-bite treatments in spine-chilling torture laboratories.
A new Chinese film called 'Evil Unbound' has brought to life the unspeakable acts that occurred in the germ warfare prisons, where even pregnant women - raped by guards - were subjected to vivisections, and the dead were hastily disposed of in electric furnaces.
The ultra-violent movie, directed by Linshan Zhao, isn't just a deep-dive into old wounds, but has the potential to stoke anger in the present day due to its disturbing revelations about the crimes against humanity committed by the Japanese.
In fact, before its theatrical release in China on September 18, the Japanese embassy issued a security advisory cautioning Japanese nationals to be 'vigilant against anti-Japanese sentiment' due to films and events held in conjunction with World War Two's 80th anniversary.
Its debut was even abruptly postponed from its original July 31 date, sparking speculation in Japanese media that the delay may have been aimed at avoiding diplomatic tensions.
While the gory spectacles showcased throughout 'Evil Unbound' may seem excessive, in reality the film hardly touches the surface of what truly occurred in the notorious facilities.

Where is the Chinese film about Mao’s murder of millions of Chinese?
I agree that executing or imprisoning the Emperor would have been a mistake. But it was also a mistake to allow him to keep his throne. It just perpetuated the myth that Japan’s leadership was at some level innocent.
Hirohito should have been treated much as Kaiser Wilhelm II was. But keep the throne for stability reasons. Force Hirohito to abdicate in favor of his son.
So, now we have the blacks and browns mad at whites, Chinese mad at Japanese, muslims hating Christians, everybody else hating Jews, etc, etc. Who is behind all this deliberate instability?
The emperor's role in Unit 731 is highly debatable; it's not clear what role he played, if any. (Would we hold any particular president of the US responsible for the gain-of-function lunacy that Fauci carried out over the space of three or more presidents?)
At a bare minimum, the sociopaths who ran the experiments should have been hauled off in handcuffs and tried for crimes against humanity; it's a stain on the US that we gave them a pass for their behavior in exchange for the information they gleaned from it.
Reality.
Every group has been historically badly treated and every group has someone they blame for their current problems.
So it has been since time began and so it will continue to be until the sun goes black.
It allows people to avoid the fact that 98% of their problems are of their own making.
We should not erase history but we should not wallow in it either.
Japan and China have been going at it for well over a thousand years.
If they manage not to wipe out everyone on the planet they will probably keep going at it for another thousand years.
Might want to tell your story to my Daughter-in-Law.
Before the Korean War my Dad was with the intelligence unit in Japan that investigated Japanese War crimes. During the war he investigated Korean War Crimes.
According to my mother, he left the US as a normal, kind of cocky infantry guy with jump wings. By the time she joined him in Japan a couple years later, he had changed into a subdued guy who treated everyone with kindness.
He was not a fan or Japan or Korea. 35 years later he had a Korean family move n next door in his suburban neighborhood. Imagine my surprise when this middle aged postal worker was found in the backyard speaking Korean to the grandmother who was visiting.
I said, “I thought you didn’t like Koreans.” He said, “I asked her a few questions. She is one of the good ones.”
He still never had much good to say about Asians in general. There is no hate like an old hate, I guess.
Right in time for China’s moves against Taiwan and perhaps Japan?
They did deserve it. And what they did caused untold suffering by our men in Korea. We took that low life who ran the unit and protected him from was crimes hanging. We did it in exchange for his notes. We should have took the notes and then killed him.
As it was, we used him for an advisor. When the Korean war naturally caused outbreaks of cholera and plague, they put two and two together and decided we were using Japanese biological warfare. After all, the Japanese had already unleashed those diseases during the war as a weapon.
Our pilots were tortured beyond belief to get them to admit to biological warfare. This wasn’t just some propaganda game, they truly believed we were unleashing biological warfare. They were convinced they could get they proof though it never existed. Read fighter pilot Bud Mahurin’s book.
731 was horrifying. They also murdered some US, Aussie and Russian POWs. They did that as a control grip for their studies to be sure their bioweapons weren’t only useful against orientals. They made Mengele seem quaint.
Imperialist Japs were worse than the Nazi’s in WWII.
Why this never gets the press it deserves is beyond me.
It should.
And for most part thy got away with it also. Most of the Big Wigs ended up on hospital boards with cushy jobs.
“Who is behind all this deliberate instability?”
These issues have been there (tribe vs tribe) since man crawled out of the caves.
Likewise humans have been at war with other humans endlessly.
The notion that “hate” is something sprung by a grand conspiracy in the last year is ludicrous.
And a Japanese diplomat, stationed in the Baltics, Chiune Sugihara, wrote visss that allowed thousands of Jews to escape the Nazis. Many made it all the way to Shanghai, where they developed a flourishing community for a few years.
What’s inexplicable about Japanese behavior with POWs in WWII is the contrast with their behavior toward POWs in WWI and Russo-Japanese War. Granted in WWI (on the Allied side!) the numbers were small. They only captured 4700 from the German colony of Tsingtao. (Yes think of the beer!). In the Russo-Japanese War they captured 70000 Russians. In both cases the Japanese were cited by the Western press as exemplars of proper POW care.
I have known Japanese people and Chinese people at work. The Japanese are better by far as friends.
Everything in Chinese media is propaganda for the Chicoms.
There is no free press or free speech and propaganda campaigns are orchestrated.
That would be satan.
My father worked with a guy who survived the Japanese Bataan death march and if they went out to lunch and the driver had a Japanese car, he refused to ride in it. He absolutely despised them and their products because of he went through.
The historical evidence is available. One article is the Japan Policy Research Institute Paper 92, June 2003, "Emperor Hirohito in 20th Century History: The Debate Rekindles" by SUNY Professor of History Herbert P. Bix.
One might (pathetically) argue that it was better the emperor not be justly tried and convicted of war crimes, but to deny the emperor didn't know or allow such war crimes to occur is completely delusional.
