I remembered the name — the duo used to perform under the name “Vaguely Familiar”.

Same name, different recording, still seasonal:

I was horrified to see they had some other guy singing in his stead while he sort of lurks in the background.
I still adore Ian but it’s time to either go totally instrumental or farm salmon again.
Maybe just enjoy being laird of the manor and dote on the grandkids
I know it’s from the vocal cord nodules and nothing he can help but walk off when you’re still on top.
The best thing about Homo Erraticus was the funny title.
A similar situation is Eric Bloom of BÖC.
Rumors of failing health, possibly like Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Man, that one -really- hurts.
It’s sad when you grow old along with your musical heroes.
Alice is still kicking ass nightly but it’s no joke that his shows rarely have enough handicap parking spaces.
Some of us have with him forever it seems.
😕
Like you, if any of them played nearby, I’d go, just out of loyalty
Also, Pete Steele.
When he bought it, TON stopped.
No replacement singer, nothing.
No Pete, TON was done.
Wisest move.
Meanwhile “ tribute” bands have popped up, arguably the best is October Noir but as decent as they sound my gut feeling is “oh how nice. go away”.
*and you cannot substitute -anyone- for Freddie Mercury, Scott Weiland or Layne Staley.
Just. Stop.
/still annoyed by the Bon Scott thing
It’s just the tyranny of time. Not long ago while following the WWW trail of breadcrumbs I found out that all the original members of Molly Hatchet have died. I wasn’t particularly a fan, and it’s not surprising I guess, but it surprised me. One of the later lead guitarists for MH used to tour as part of the then-current lineup of Foghat. Most of the older bands are really just tribute bands at this point.
Phil Mogg (UFO) retired after a farewell tour, hmm, sometime prior to mid-2014. Oh wait, sez he retired after the UFO tour in 2018 or ‘19. Oh wait, he has his own band and put out a new album. I’m outta the loop.

Alex Ligertwood is still alive, and was performing as recently as last year (and wow, I just made the mistake of reading some YouTuber comments), and he’s a little rough in spots but can still hit the notes, just not with that power he used to have. And he’s 80 of course.

Dang.
Bummer about MH.
They were frequent players at what’s called “ East Coast Sturgis” near me.
I painted their album art (well Frazetta really) on my share of Harleys and other biker swag to sell, back in the day.
First BÖC concert had Foghat as starter band.
They were selling band merch and the best one was a ball cap that just had FOG printed on the front.
Funny.
