John Stossel interviews James Lindsay, famous for fighting wokeness on the left. Lindsay is vigorously investigating wokeness on the right, mostly but not limited to those following the ideas of Nick Fuentes.
----
A new section of the right is foolishly bashing liberty … and even embracing Marxist ideas.
That's why some call them the "woke right."
At all.
Fuentes expressed admiration for Stalin. There’s a little admiration for monarchy or dictatorship on the alt-right, but this stuff is extremely fringe-y, and not worth all the time spent on it.
The bigger picture — what is significant and not fringe-y — is a dissatisfaction with the idea that everything will work out with free markets. Up to a point yes, but countries do have to look out for their own interests and not let global forces determine their futures.
“Woke right” is a dumb, inaccurate term. “Wokeness” having been used against the left, some want to throw it against others on the right. Alt-right or just extremists are better terms.
True.
I couldn’t agree more.
Fake news. Gaslighting, projecting, whatever it is. Accuse the other side of exactly what you are doing g, classic leftist play.
Exactly.
‘Fuentes was banned from travel, is still banned from YouTube, was banned from Twitter for many years, his followers are doxxed and banned all over the place....every single mainstream publication of the left (and btw the right as well) has viciously attacked him.’
And deservedly so.
See my post #71. Part of the confusion in the debate whether monarchy or Federalism is "conservatism" has to do with context. The political and cultural institutions of different nations are not interchangeable, therefore what's "conservative" in America isn't what's "conservative" in Spain or Italy.
“And deservedly so.”
This is one of the things I like about Fuentes.
He forces his enemies to reveal their true colors. They don’t get to hide behind virtue signaling any more.
See my tagline.
I always thought that the mindset "If the liberals are against something, I'm going to be for it" ridiculous, i.e. "Yeah - I'm going to increase my risk of lung cancer or mouth/throat cancer just to spite liberals - that will show them!"
It's not that conservatives are embracing "Marx." But they're moving away from a slavish devotion to free markets, and an uncritical admiration for corporations, big business, and rich people. In the 1980s, when I was young, conservative media used to practically worship Big Business and idolize the wealthy. It's was the Ayn Rand influence.
But lately conservatism has embraced the populism of Pat Buchanan and Sam Francis, which is less celebratory of the free market. It doesn't make them Marxist.
You make a good point. The interests of big business, particularly international corporations and finance, do not always align with the national interest.
Of course, it's convenient for the apologists of private equity speculators and Big Tech oligarchs to claim that anything that stands in their way is "Marxism" or "Leftism", because it wins well-intentioned conservatives over to their side. Meanwhile, they're left to their own devices, happily engaging in such un-conservative and anti-national acts such as importing Third World labor or offshoring production.
That's why anarcho-libertarians are as uselessly utopian as any socialist. Thomas Hobbes was right.
The principals of anarcho-libertarianism are correct and are the best solution for prosperity. However, the practice of anarcho-libertarianism is not possible without all other variables being highly controlled. Anarcho-libertarianism by itself would devolve into chaos and bloodshed almost immediately.
This is why maybe a Monarchy to highly control the variables (foreign relations, warlords, crime, immigration, virtues, culture, religion, etc...) and strictly enforce the non-aggression principal internally among the subject maybe the closest a society could get to anarcho-libertarianism and the greatest possible prosperity.
Lol...the guy who is mad that young conservatives may be abandoning "constitutional liberty" thinks people should lose their right to travel and free speech for having the wrong beliefs.
Wow. The lack of self awareness is staggering.
Yup—Freepers need to look in the mirror every day—and make sure they like the person looking back at them.
Interesting how many hymns and liturgical works are poems.... And so, spontaneously scrawled for you....
And indeedMerry Christmas. :)
I do accede;
Each wordy deed
Which turns to screed
Is so pedigreed
To the Liar's breed.Demons feed
On those in need,
While prayers plead
For Grace. Be freed
Not ne'er worried,
By Love and heed
These simple words: God speed!
And deservedly so.
You think a person should be banned from travel because of their opinions? And banned from having a platform from which to speak?
You seem to share Fuentes's admiration for Stalinism.
Hahaha! Great!
The only Marxism I support is Grouchoism.
Its mostly an imaginary construct in the mind of Identity Zionists and their boomer supporters that believe in giant space chicken theology.
Its like Santa Claus, its only real when you want it to be.
Bingo. This is just the commie trash MSM and their paid influencers corrupting words.
Woke = commie trash. Cannot be right/conservative and be OK with any aspects of communism. And, support programs within a republic is not communism.
