One passion is playing the piano. Another is piloting big jets for United Airlines. He does both at DIA Captain Beau Brant plays a concourse concert before his flight Posted 9:04 PM, Dec 18, 2025 and last updated 10:25 AM, Dec 19, 2025 By: Mike Castellucci
Captain Beau Brant is a pilot for United Airlines. He's also an incredible piano player. So they wheeled a grand piano into Concourse B at Denver International Airport for a few special concerts...before his flights. "Tires look great, this is a relatively new airplane," Brant says.
There's a lot that goes into his job before leaving the ground. Airplane inspection. Flight plans. Meetings with his crew.

"Going to San Diego and back tonight," he said. "It's going to be a little windy. But since I have a bit of downtime, I'm going to play a little before I fly."
He's pointing to a grand piano sitting in the middle of Concourse B at Denver International Airport. Brant will play a concert for anyone who wants to stop and listen.

Damn Yamaha pianos. They're everywhere.
Just a good Friday night story. There was a Yamaha piano when I was in the hospital.
My Alma Mater, University of Northern Colorado, had Yamaha pianos.
Just a good Friday night story.
Very nice. He seems like a good guy!

Of course!
Yamaha has a 5-year “swap-out” with the larger institutions that use 100 or more Yammies.
Every 5 years, the public can usually get a GREAT deal on a Yamaha when the University makes the swap.
You haven’t tried a nice piano until you have tried pianoteq. The most amazing thing in the world of pianos.
Thanks.
“You haven’t tried a nice piano until you have tried pianoteq.”
That’s a bit of an overstatement.. but pianoteq is amazing. No digital piano can touch pianoteq.
My dad did THE BEST Ray Charles imitation. So I got my parents tickets to see Ray Charles for their anniversary.
When my dad saw those tickets, he was laughing and crying at the same time.
His voice: thin, reedy, linear, nasal and rapid paced, is the opposite his performing sound.
When he plays, I hear a lot of warm, bright, and soft notes. Some similarity to the early work of Claude De Bussy.
I wish the report had allowed us to hear more of his uninterrupted playing.
My other Alma Mater GA Southern had Steinways.
That was 30+ years ago. I bet they have Yamahas now.
As you can see from my screen name, I'm not a Pianist.
Yeah, me too. It was just a short news story.
If he had been playing Christmas Carols, he probably would have gotten more air time, but most really good musicians I know are rebellious , some quietly and some in everyone’s face. Maybe he just didn’t feel like crankin’ out the oldies like “All I want for Xmas is my 2 front teeth” .
“Ah... I don’t think this piano is properly tuned for me to play that song. Sorry. But here’s another one, you might like!”
We have one. It has dust on it.
Hey!
Lol. The happy medium are the musicians who play for a living. They get used to giving the people what they want, when they want it. That’s different than those who mainly play for their own enjoyment.
He could have done the Wexford carol...but maybe the airport didn’t want actual Christmas:

Good people all, this Christmas time,
Consider well and bear in mind
What our good God for us has done
In sending his beloved son
With Mary holy we should pray,
To God with love this Christmas Day
In Bethlehem upon that morn,
There was a blessed Messiah born.
The night before that happy tide,
The noble Virgin and her guide
Were long time seeking up and down
To find a lodging in the town.
But mark how all things came to pass
From every door repelled, alas,
As was foretold, their refuge all
Was but a humble ox’s stall.
Near Bethlehem did shepherds keep
Their flocks of lambs and feeding sheep
To whom God’s angels did appear
Which put the shepherds in great fear
Prepare and go, the angels said
To Bethlehem, be not afraid
For there you’ll find, this happy morn
A princely babe, sweet Jesus, born.
With thankful heart and joyful mind
The shepherds went the babe to find
And as God’s angel had foretold
They did our Saviour Christ behold
Within a manger he was laid
And by his side the virgin maid
Attending on the Lord of Life
Who came on earth to end all strife.
There were three wise men from afar
Directed by a glorious star
And on they wandered night and day
Until they came where Jesus lay
And when they came unto that place
Where our beloved Messiah lay
They humbly cast them at his feet
With gifts of gold and incense sweet.
We saw a Yamaha concert grand piano at a local music store a few years back.
Yellow tape around it, “Do Not Touch” signs, and a $700,000 price tag.
My belief is that anything that costs that much should have an address or a 12 cylinder engine that says “Ferrari” on the valve covers.
He was playing a tough Gershwin passage with ease so yeah he’s good.
True story: I was at a gig one time, and a guy asked me to serenade his girlfriend.
I said no.
Why not?
Because If I do, she'll be coming home with me, and not with you.
Yep, that's some Frank Zappa "unmitigated audacity", right there.
And I proudly claim it.
