The gunman who killed two students at Brown University was found dead in a storage unit after murdering an MIT professor as their decades-old connection was revealed.
The suspect - 48-year-old Claudio Neves Valente - was revealed to be a Portuguese national who studied at the Ivy League school in Rhode Island more than 20 years ago.
He had attended Brown to pursue a masters of science in physics from 2000 to 2001, before he took a leave of absence and ultimately withdrew from the school.
It remains unclear why Neves Valente opened fire at the Rhode Island school, killing Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, 18, of Virginia, and Ella Cook, of Alabama, 19.
But University President Christina Paxson said it was likely he took classes inside that building when he attended the school.
Neves Valente opened fire during a study session at the Ivy League's School of Engineering Barus and Holley Building on December 13.
Two days later, he fatally shot MIT Professor Nuno Loureiro inside his Boston home.
Authorities revealed that gunman original target was Loureiro and the pair had attended the same school in Portugal from 1995 to 2000.
It was unclear what the shooter's motive was or what his relationship with Loureiro had been.
The suspect was ultimately found dead after a six-day manhunt, when authorities located a vehicle he used parked outside of a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire - more than 80 miles from the Ivy League school.

He was targeting the building. My gut says it was nothing more than a diversion.
Would like to know EXACTLY when he rented the car. His computer should show him googling rentals unless he had rented before.
Simple diversion...LE set up a SMALL perimeter....worked perfectly for the shooter.
Dec 1 in Boston.
Thank you
Did he apply to the school to teach?? Did he use the MIT dude as a reference? Did the MIT dude refuse??
I think we will have a better picture today or in the near future.
So much we don't know about him personally....relatives, friends, living where.
This is not a dumb dude...he pondered this for a while...we repeat ourselves...over and over..."patterns"....whether it's a trip to the store or calling our kids.
I figured out his motive.
The guy wanted to create a new Greater Portugal.
He yearned for the Treaty of Tordesillas days.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tordesillas
He blamed Brown University and MIT for the fall of the Portuguese Empire.
“””We need a work record on this guy.”””
I agree.
My suspicions are that the Brown shooter was getting Section 8 housing, Social Security Disability, Food Stamps, and the myriad other government handouts.
Isn’t our government wonderful and so caring??????
In about 1623, the Duke of Loureiro deposed Emilio Valente and his extend family because the Valente son fathered a child with the Loureuro youngest daughter Pacentia.
The trouble between the families continued and came to America where Portugee remnants continue to hate each other.
His jacket appeared to be a bit shabby...
Seems all the announcements are more about the wonders of the LOCAL LE than "the perp".
“ Don’t be so gullible.”

Yeah…. it’s crazy to think crazy, twisted people can do crazy twisted things.
“””We’re missing BIG pieces...no relative or connection to friends has been mentioned....

I saw a post from the Miami Herald that the shooter lived in Miami. No other details in that post about what or where the shooter was doing in Miami.
[Why would you out of the blue, murder someone you hadn’t seen in 25 years?]
The Carl Ericsson Case (2012)
The Incident: In January 2012, Norman Johnson, a retired high school teacher and track coach, was shot twice in the face and killed at his front door in Madison, South Dakota.
The Motive: The killer was identified as Carl Ericsson, a former high school classmate of Johnson’s. Ericsson revealed to investigators that he was still tormented by a humiliating locker room prank from nearly 55 years earlier, where Johnson, then a high school sports star, had pulled a jockstrap over his head. This decades-old incident, among other perceived slights and envy over Johnson’s success, had festered into a fatal obsession.
"Crazy" is an oft employed and convenient excuse to cease all inquiry and shove stories into the memory hole. In this case, why this particular woman was chosen to die. Ten bullets to the head, or so we are told. The other person apparently just sitting in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The MSM of course obligingly demonstrates a complete lack of curiosity as to 'why her?' She was very unalike most Brown students in a very public way in a hyper-politically charged environment, but, never mind, because, "crazy".
Let’s vote on the veracity of this. I vote BS.
from CBS Miami——
The search for the Brown University shooting suspect has come to an end after he was found dead on Thursday, and investigators say his last known address was in South Florida.
On Thursday night and again Friday morning, CBS News Miami went to the address in Ives Estates, an unincorporated area of northeast Miami-Dade County just west of Aventura, where a man who answered the door said he didn’t know the suspect and declined to talk.
I tried to watch the news conference of this last night but so many of the speakers were simply patting themselves and others on the back. It was almost 30 minutes before a woman came on and told who the shooter was. Then it was back to back patting again.
I quit watching for about 30 minutes, then turned the TV back on and began to get a better report.
“””””Crazy” is an oft employed and convenient excuse to cease all inquiry and shove stories into the memory hole.””””
And adding to the craziness is the dude who posted clues on Reddit.
Supposedly, this dude, called John, was a super-intelligent graduate of Brown who is now homeless.
