The article may be misconstruing the action of the light on DNA. The light effects certain light sensitive proteins within cells. The editing part is that viruses are used to insert genes in the cell to let the cells synthesize light sensitive proteins, which when stimulated by the light,exert biochemical functions in the cell. The light is usually delivered by fiberoptic material implanted in the tissue.
This technique could be used to control cellular activities related to diseases like cardiac dysrhythmias, neurologic eyesight issues, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, etc.
The authors seems to imply that the NEW DNA is synthesized by the light. The light affects NEW DNA which was made by engineered implant of DNA through the adenovirus vector.
Not quite the “red light” memory eraser as featured in MEN IN BLACK.
could the DNA insertion technique be used to control people?
Well ya’ gotta get the light in there...now if they could use radiation to control the newly synthesized proteins...that could be problematic....
Maybe they could use the technique to control some people’s need to kill other innocent people who have a different religion than them...
The real fear is using adenoviruses to insert DNA into a genome....usually done for people with untreatable illnesses...ya’ don’t want to add DNA to a functioning gene...really mucks up a cell...causing malfunction of the genome, cancers, etc....very bad.
