Ireland needs to break its links with fossil fuel use, SEAI says

A new report from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) says that although energy related emissions in Ireland have fallen by 16% since 2018, the country has not broken the link between economic growth and fossil fuel use in a meaningful way.

The SEAI says Ireland needs to double down on decarbonization, especially in transport, which is still 93% powered by fossil fuels.

Ireland is legally obliged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.

SEAI Energy in Ireland 2025 report notes total energy-related emissions have fallen to the lowest level in over 30 years.

This has been despite a 10% growth in the population, 18% growth in electricity demand, and strong growth in the economy.

However, it warns this is not enough to achieve the 2030 targets. …

Once the muzzies kill off the past fair skinned Irish they will use fossil fuels again.

I have family there still. It is absolutely disgusting what the feminized government has done. Islam conquered it without a shot fired. My niece had to be moved out of her school because the Islamic trash harassed her relentlessly and the authorities do nothing. And if they complain THEY will be the ones arrested for hurting the feeling of the muzzie trash.

“Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) says that although”

Whatever you do to satiate these people, it never be enough. There will always be an “although”.

Haggis is pretty much strictly Scottish. Not known in Ireland unless maybe in Belfast and Derry when the Scots brought it over during the plantation years.

Required by who??

How is “independence” working out for ya, Eire?

The State may become a member of the European Coal and Steel Community (established by Treaty signed at Paris on the 18th day of April, 1951), the European Economic Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957) and the European Atomic Energy Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957).

No provision of this Constitution invalidates laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the State necessitated by the obligations of membership of the Communities—or prevents laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the Communities, or institutions thereof, from having the force of law in the State.
Ireland has not been independent since January 1, 1972, thanks to that Third Amendment to its constitution and the wording thereof. The country was independent for a mere 28 years.

Ireland will crash into economic ruin if they listen to these fools.

Well that depends on what those people want to accomplish.
If it is the total destruction of Ireland seems they are the right ones for the job.

Because Swift’s “modest proposal” needs some tweaking.

Start saving “solo” cups and tin cans. Ireland is going to need a telecommunication system too.

“Ireland is legally obliged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.”

This is due to domestic legislation enacted by the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament).

The primary legal driver is the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021

Energy is intrinsically linked to prosperity, and there is a cost to any delusion that it isn’t.

Iceland is directly over a mantle hotspot it has geothermal energy like no where else on earth as t shallow depths at that.

[Iceland’s geothermal potential is massive, with estimates suggesting over 50,000 GWh (or 50,000,000 terawatt-hours) of annual potential electricity generation from geothermal and hydro combined, with geothermal making up a significant portion (around 20,000 GWh estimated in 2007).]

[2020 Usage: Over 173,000 TJ of primary energy from geothermal sources (mostly for heating).
Direct Use (2020): ~23,000 TJ for space heating, plus significant amounts for pools, snowmelt, etc..]

It is absolutely foolish to import oil or gas to burn to heat with or make power when you are literally sitting on magma that’s as hot as fire.

Iceland doesn’t it’s electricity grid is Hydro and geothermal not even 1% is oil or gas at the grid level.

https://www.iea.org/countries/iceland/energy-mix

They import fuel for car, trucks and buses about 17% total energy used including electricity and heating that’s an in the IEA has the numbers in the link above.

Just like Norway they are ideal to switch to EVs like Tesla or BYD with BYD using sodium ion cells now that work down to ninus 40C with 90% of the capacity still in them. Sodium don’t care about cold it’s one of the reasons BYD is doing sodium cells North China is cold Harbin for sure it’s down right artic in winter there.

Iceland can easily replace it’s imports of petrol with elections they have the Hydro and geothermal for days. Plus most people live in the city singular.

[Iceland is overwhelmingly urban, with nearly 94% of its population living in urban areas, meaning less than 6% reside in rural settings, primarily in small villages or agricultural zones, with the vast majority concentrated around the capital, Reykjavik, and along the coasts.]

Like Norway and Oslo, Iceland is perfect for EVs and Tesla Semi trucks too. They have a killer tram network in Reykjavik and yeah it’s all electric.

Hydrocarbons are to valuable to burn once to the sky that’s why.

Are you a geologist a petroleum one at that? I am two decades of experience in petro engineering and geo.

Hydrocarbons are the basis for , medications ,lubricants, polymers, every petrochemical too. We will need those forever we do not need to burn fuel to the sky humans have other tech that can do the same job.

Aircraft need high density energy. Liquids do that job well but humans have since the 1940s the tech to synthesize liquid aircraft fuels from virtually any carbon containing material or even extract carbon as CO2 from seawater (US Navy did this in 2006) or the air for the carbon molecule water is the hydrogen source.

Even aircraft can be electrified for regional distances. Seattle has electric seaplanes flying today. Uber Elevate is flying airtaxi in Dubai that are electric too.

Solid state aluminum cells the DOD is using in drones have 90+ wh/kg charge in 60 seconds and last 20000+ cycles and have zero rare earth’s or cobalt or lithium they are aluminium graphene cells with glass electrolytes. So Al,Si,C in them some of the most common elements on and in earth. Those cells will eventually make it to civys tech akways flows downhill from military to open market.

Simple fact is we have 8 billion humans there is not enough liquid hydrocarbons to have all living at
EU let alone USA levels of energy consumption. That would be 5000 examples vs 600 per year and would burn out every last liquid hydrocarbon in under a decade. As is we have 46 ish years at any market price for liquid hydrocarbons.
