I’ve learned that Notre Dame has decided to opt out of any post-season bowl games this year. They finished the season with a 10-2 record, losing to Miami and Texas A&M. I know they are an independent program/not a part of any conference.
Is this a reasonable decision? Unreasonable? If they played a strong schedule or have a record of beating teams that made it to the 12-team cut-off, I can see understand their POV. (Not saying it’s right. Just that I understand it.)
I agree. Add Tennessee to your list.
I don’t understand the obsession with minor league football. Must be the gambling influence, and a need for one more chance to bet.
Ah, “The Fretting Irish”.
I say this repeatedly, “This country has an absolutely insatiable appetite to be entertained.”
It is not entertainment. Football and sports are life.
Absent life, what’s the point of being?
Whiny #$%%^es. Basically they think they got jobbed being excluded from the playoffs, and are mad the head of the conference they’re not really in pushed teams in that conference. So they decided to take their ball and go home. And nobody really cares. They lost the head to head. And they refuse to actually join a conference. They made this bed, if it’s shortsheeted that’s on them.
LOL- lemme guess- you go out their shouting “tax the rich!!” all the time as well...
The ACC do not want us, we beat Boston College and Duke, the conference champions. 😀
If they played this coming Saturday, who do you think would win?
Their strength of schedule was pathetic and would have been destroyed in the first playoff game but that being said, Alabama also has no business being in the playoffs.
A few years ago, UCONN beat ND in Football.
UConn will be traveling less than 100 miles for their bowl game. They are at the Fenway Bowl. They will be about 34K at the game..Army UConn.
UMass against Kent State do not need to be in the bowl season...they both are in the MAC (Mid American Conference). But it could be sponsored by Ty-D-Bowl, Kohler (toilet) or Roto-Rooter...
UConn has a coaching change, yet they are playing. Jim Mora moved to Colorado State and UConn got Toledo coach, Toledo is playing in a bowl game, too. Two UConn players are opt-outing out. Joe Fagnano and Skyler Bell, both Seniors and training for the NFL.
UMass does not belong in the FBS. Really the MAC should go to the FCS, because that’s their level.
There’s a 3rd reason ND isn’t in a conference, being independent means they only have to play 1 or 2 (at the most) competitive games a year (which they oftentimes lose). They’re almost guaranteed a 10 win season every year and think that they should be entitled to be in the playoffs every year (having played a schedule against “Little Sisters of the Poor” more often than not)!!!
UConn is also an independent and are not in the same position as Notre Dame....6-6 UConn teams don’t get invited to a bowl game so they have to take what’s offered to them, regardless of coaching changes....comparing UConn to Auburn or KState or Iowa State is laughable...
Foolish decision by Fagano- he’s playing in a minor post season all-star game (I believe the American Bowl) and hopes to get elevated to the Shrine Bowl but he needs to take as many snaps as possible for scouts- considering he was graded as a reject coming into the season...
CUSA first...they have some fun games to watch but the talent level in that conference, which is basically FCS schools moving up, is slightly better than the top HS programs...
Well said. And it makes me happy that the sport networks can’t tout the Golden Domers’ bowl game.
Agreed.
