The recent federal indictment of Dana Williamson — California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s former chief of staff — should come as no surprise: It’s the latest example of a thoroughly corrupt Sacramento political culture that afflicts both parties.
But as bad as you may think the corruption is, I can tell you first-hand that it is much worse.
For Democrats, supermajority status has resulted in a “might makes right” attitude of abusing their power to impose their will — and to help themselves.
Worse, because Democrats control almost all the levers of state and local law enforcement (including the state attorney general’s office and most local district attorneys’ offices), bad behavior has been tolerated because of party loyalty.
Democrats don’t often call out other Democrats for corruption.
The problem with Sacramento’s corruption extends beyond ethically-challenged politicians.
It includes an unelected and largely unknown network of political consultants and lobbyists who are enriching themselves and trading favors on behalf of their clients.
The allegations against Williamson are a good illustration.
She is a well-known Democratic political operative known for her mafia-like approach to politics; that’s why Newsom wanted her in charge of his office.
Williamson is accused of illegally laundering roughly $225,000 in campaign funds to reward political consultants in her orbit.

This is what has existed for generations in the big city cesspools. California is much larger and richer. Into the 1980’s, the productive classes were still large enough to contain the corrupt pols. Mass immigration destroyed that balance. The looters now rule, and it’s hard to see how California can pull out of the death spiral. This is the socialist endgame; the political class rules and enriches itself.
Bankruptcy might be the necessary start, as long as there is a stopper in Washington to ensure that there are no federal bailouts.
His approval is going up. Dems only care that he’s a Dem, nothing else matters.

I have to shake my head when I hear/read that socialism fails everywhere it is tried. Socialism succeeds everywhere it is tried. Modern socialism is about oligarchy with the socialist politicians at the center.

Except that in the Mafia, embezzling gets you a shot behind the ear. As a democrat inmate, she’ll while away her time in a private “corrections” club.
The voting base doesn’t care.
They are perfectly happy with $5.00/gas and even voted down a repeal of the last gas tax.
They hate Trump so much they’ll vote for any Democrat, corrupt or not.
That’s the power Democrats have in California.
Socialism can only succeed for a time. Either it will be stopped by someone with real political clout, or if all else fails...comes a time when the Lord returns to earth to gather his own & all the political scheming will come to an end within a short period of time. Now is the time to determine which side you would rather be on because we all may be on a very short time schedule.
At least $20 billion of California’s @ $300 billion state budget is fraudulent, and probably more. California has a private attorney general law which can recover some of that. AI has dramatically reduced the cost of proving such fraud.
Democrats don’t often call out other Democrats for corruption.
Nor does the other Mafia.
